Although this product is more expensive than many inexpensive scanners, it is worth the expense if you do a lot of scanning. It has many useful features. It was easy to install with the included driver CD. It is comparatively heavy compared to less expensive units.

The Canon imageFormula DR-2020U ($645 direct) looks like nothing so much as a neatly sawed off top section from a desktop laser MFP-a flatbed scanner, automatic document feeder (ADF), front panel buttons, and LCD for menu text, with no printer attached.

We invested in this for light office use because of the feeder tray and my previous positive Canon experience. It was used lightly for several months and performed fine. However, within a year, it errored, suggesting that we should "Release the lock switch.

While a picture scan was very good, higher resolution would be desiralable in order to not have to buy another scanner for just that putpose for occaisonial high resotution scans. Otherwise the scanner meets or exceeds all expectations so far. I have only two weeks use to go buy so far.

Excellent Software; Good Resolution; Widely Compatible

This scanner is not compatible with the Mac OS operating system and there are no programs that will allow the Mac to use this scanner. Look elsewhere if you are considering buying this scanner.

Difficult Setup; Poor Software

Bought it at the end of Jan 2011 and I am on my third one now from Canon. The thing is a piece of junk. First one doc feeder wouldn't work after about a month of light use then the next two the lock switch kept causing problems.
