The zoom ring is towards the rear of the lens and may be slightly too far back to be controlled comfortably between the thumb and third finger by some users. While strong at around f/8, the resulting MTF results from technical testing were otherwise rather disappointing.

The build quality of this lens is basically identical to the EF 17-40mm f/4L - it's exceptionally high just as you would expect it from a Canon L lens. No wobbling whatsoever and smooth controls - almost perfect.
This is Canon's premier wide angle zoom. It has ground aspheric elements, and UD glass for colour correction and less distortion, which can be huge problems on a super wide angle lens. As an L lens, the build quality is superb. It is weather sealed against dust and moisture.

this is a great canon L series ultra wise angle lens !! it is very versatile because one can use it insignificantly for making films and for spectacular landscape photography. at 35mm it also works very fine for portraits and in studio shoots.. in all its a very good investment to make.
