A great, robust zoom lens that produces professional images quality, snapping with sharpness and contrast. If you don't use converters and image syabalization, seek out a nice old, black MAGIC DRAINPIPE!
I have used this lens extensively for candid downtown shots and I'm amazed at the quality of the images. It?'s black and rather average-looking, so nobody cares where I pioint it. Have taken pictures at 50+ metres that I've kept! Took some of my nephew from 40 metres out.
Sharp; solid; cheap (It's a great L-lens) and black
Nope; not really
Excellent image quality on full frame, across the frame - very uniform. Rich, creamy contrast in darker areas. And yet it's tack sharp - when properly focused. I expected precise focusing to be quite a problem at 200mm, but actually 5Dmk2 autofocuses it more reliably than 85/1.8.
Uniform; creamy contrast across the frame; tack sharp; AF-friendly
Somewhat unbalanced on 5D2 body
Top-Notch!!!! One of the very best lenses arround, even with my Extender Kenko Pro 300 x1,4 DGX there is no loss of resolution.....
Very sharp; fantastic contrast; no CA′s; no vignetting; tipical L-wise strong colours; excelent construction; quiet handy
Simply NOTHING!!!
For the price you cannot beat the cost of this lens. Some may say there's no IS but with a lens this fast and lightweight it is not necessary. It is tack sharp and offers wonderful bokeh effects. My only grip is the cheap plastic hood which was initially a bear to get on and off.
Fast / accurate auto-focus; Lightweight; Nice Bokeh; Strong Construction
I like the lens, but am more used to a zoom telephoto so it is taking longer to get used than I would have liked. I miss not having the flexibility of the zoom.
I bought this lens to take portrait of my son and it works good.
Image Stabilization
Too heavy
"Everybody loves the versatility of a 70-200 zoom however if you check, you will probably find that the majority of your shots are taken at 200 mm so why not consider the 200 L 2.8 This lens is smaller, its fast, lightweight, inconspicuous and takes sharp pictures with great bokeh.
I use the Canon EF 200mm f/2.8L-II USM Lens to take pictures of my daughter at the beach and other places where I need more telescopic power. I have a Canon EF 135mm f/2L USM Lens and it ROCKS! Between the two, I think the 135 gives better color and better focus.
Durable; Easily Interchangeable; Fast / accurate auto-focus; Strong Construction
Poor in Low Light
