Canon EF 28mm f1.8 USM lens.

Although at f1.8 there is a degree of fuzziness, once stopped down to f2.8 that disappears and it is extremely sharp, getting better as you stop down. (f8- f11 superb) I cannot see any reason for buying the more expensive F2.8 IS lens as I don't think that paying twice the price will yield much...

Consistent Output; Durable; Quick Focus; Rugged; Sharp Focus; Strong Construction

Wide angle goodness

I got this lens for my 7D to effectively work as a 50mm. Love it and would definitely recommend for anyone with a cropped sensor who is after a fast prime lens. It's great having the ability to go to f1.8 but most of the time it's too quick and I have trouble setting focus on what I want...

Reliable; Durable

Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM

The Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM ($509.99 direct) is impressively compact when you consider its wide-angle field of view and fast aperture, but there are some optical compromises that you should be aware of. It is compatible with both APS-C and full-frame Canon D-SLR cameras.

Very nice "classic" lens for people who enjoy photography rather than having the latest technology

I never wrote a product review before but this lens causes so much confusion across the internet that I couldn't resist offering my opinion. I only use it as a standard prime on a cropped sensor so I'm not referring to it's use as a wide angle lens on a full-frame sensor.

Excellent Normal Lens for 1.6x crop DSLR

I bought this lens to go with my Canon 40D (1.6x crop). With 28mm focal length (equivalent to 50mm on full frame sensor), it had been served as my all-purpose lens since day one. Of course, 50mm f/1.4 on 5D are far better combination.

Lightweight; fast/noiseless USM focus; sharp comparing to zoom lens

Not sharp enough especially at f/1.8, has to use f/2.8 or above; Wish it has larger aperture like the Sigma f/1.4

Good for low light if used properly

I just shot a wedding and used this lens and it fairly nice. It can't say it is blurry or really awesome in its focus. If you want to use it wide open (F1.8), you shouldn't expect to get really great focus with it when you are shooting things that are over 10ft away.

Easily Interchangeable; Lightweight; Nice Bokeh

REVIEW: Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM Lens Review

Handling and features This classic wide angle prime from Canon provides a wide angle field of view, fast, silent focusing and a bright f/1.8 maximum aperture. With this lens costing around £380, could it be the perfect budget solution for hand held low light shooting?

Great prime bargain

Pros: I grew up with manual focus prime lenses so the Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 feels like home to me. I use the autofocus most of the time ?ò it's spot on and fast, but I like to focus manually, especially with the very shallow depth of field this lens offers at f/1.8, and it has a large and very smooth...
