Awesome Quality

very light and awesome picture quality, built is OK, didn't expect the wideness even on 1.6 cropped 550D. I would recommend to a friend.

Easy to use; Compact; Build quality; Battery life; Screen size

Canon lens

It is wide enough for the Grand Canyon, but not too wide (or fish eye). It is quiet, and worked well shooting Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West a week ago.

Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM

The Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM ($509.99 direct) is impressively compact when you consider its wide-angle field of view and fast aperture, but there are some optical compromises that you should be aware of. It is compatible with both APS-C and full-frame Canon D-SLR cameras.

Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM Review

The Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM ($509.99 direct) is impressively compact when you consider its wide-angle field of view and fast aperture, but there are some optical compromises that you should be aware of. It is compatible with both APS-C and full-frame Canon D-SLR cameras. It's a relative bargain—Canon also offers an EF 28mm f/2.8 IS USM lens with image stabilization that sells for $800, even though it captures less light at its maximum aperture. The lens isn't as sharp as Nikon's take on the design, the AF-S Nikkor 28mm f/1.8G($696.95 at Amazon), which impressed us enough to earn our Editors' Choice award. The EF 28mm measures just 2.2 by 2.9 inches (HD) and weighs about 10.9 ounces. It can focus on objects as close as 0.8-foot from the front of the lens. It is by no means a macro optic, but keeping the aperture wide open and focusing at the minimum distance allow you to capture images with a shallow depth of field. Standard 58mm filters are supported, and there's no movement at a...

The EF 28mm f/1.8 USM is a fast wide-angle optic for use with Canon D-SLRs, but it isn't sharp at its maximum aperture and is prone to color fringing.

Compact; Fast aperture; Minimal distortion; Sharp when stopped down a bit

Not sharp at maximum aperture; Prone to color fringing; No image stabilization; Hood not included

Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM review by DanSlr

I recently got this after thinking about buying it for at least one year. After reading the reviews I decided to go for this one instead of the Sigma 30mm F1.4. This lens have been "glued" to my Canon 7D after I got it. The feel and "fun factor" of this lens is huge.

"Normal view" for a APS-C camera; sharp; excellent bokeh; lightweight compared to zoom lenses; excellent built; great film lens

Some "travelling" of the auto focus; difficult to focus in low light

Awesome! My new favourite!

I got exactly what i wanted when i bought this EF Lens. I had read some bad reviews about the lens, but I just think it's just a matter of taste. It's not the best lens in the world, but I like it! It's cheap (for a lens), it's small and it's great in dark conditions.

Canon EF 28mm f1.8 USM lens.

Although at f1.8 there is a degree of fuzziness, once stopped down to f2.8 that disappears and it is extremely sharp, getting better as you stop down. (f8- f11 superb) I cannot see any reason for buying the more expensive F2.8 IS lens as I don't think that paying twice the price will yield much...

Consistent Output; Durable; Quick Focus; Rugged; Sharp Focus; Strong Construction

Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM Lens Review

Handling and features Performance Verdict Specification This classic wide angle prime from Canon provides a wide angle field of view, fast, silent focusing and a bright f/1.8 maximum aperture.

Good build quality; Compact; Reasonably lightweight

Poor optical performance at fast apertures; CA at fast apertures; Price versus performance doesn't add up
