"Everything I Want in One Package."

I purchased this lense because I trust the quality of Canon products. I especially like the image stabilizing function on it. My camera and this lense are a perfect pair.

Durable; Good Value; High Quality

Canon EF-S 18-200mm f3.5-5.6 IS

The Canon EF-S 18-200mm IS was announced in August 2008 alongside the EOS 50D DSLR. One of the most-requested Canon lenses in recent times, it equips EF-S compatible bodies with a long 11.1x super-zoom range that's equivalent to 29-320mm.

Enormously flexible 11.1x optical range; Effective Image Stabilisation; Lock control to prevent barrel from extending; End section doesn't rotate when focusing

Noticeable barrel distortion at 18mm; Softness and fringing in corners; No USM focusing or full-time MF; Some creep on the barrel

Jack of all trades...

This is Canon's first foray into the superwide to telephoto class of lenses. It still needs some work As the title implies, this lens does a lot, too much in fact. It suffers from the problems associated with long zooms: pincushion and barrel distortion, and the edges aren't very sharp at most...

Handy lens to have.

This is a handy general usage lens. I basically use it for my kid's sports events where i am sitting far away but I don't want to bring 2 lenses. So I bring this one. I'm no pro, but i do notice a slight image quality difference between this and my f2.8 17-55mm lens, but it's still pretty good.

A really good all-around lens. If I had to take only one lens on vacation, this would be it. The combination of wide angle and zoom make it very versatile. Some reviewers have complained of lens creep - the model I received had a manual lock that prevented creep, but you have to unlock it every time...

The IS function works good as long as you're not over-caffeinated, I imagine a system built into the camera body works better though; Decent focusing speed and low-light performance; Great zoom and wide angle.

Heavy; Obvious vignetting; Obvious spherical aberration, Power consumption is high with the IS switched on, and ***the IS does not seem to shut off when you turn the camera off!*** I have to shut off the IS independently; of the camera power.

Best all around lens for the money

We have three lenes for our D50, and this is by far the most useful. We have now stored both of the other and use this lens all the time. Works both indoor and outdoor for wide angle and zoom photos.

Consistent Output; Easily Interchangeable; Strong Construction

Meets my expectations with ease. Loving it.

Solid; it has a stabilization feature; allows a degree of freedom; quick response time and the focus is quick too

No issues

Priced at $780, the Canon EF-S 18-200mm IS is an archetypal vacation lens, offering the convenience of an 11x optical superzoom point-and-shoot digicam with the image quality of a Canon DSLR.

REVIEW: Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS

A popular all-in-one lens covering a massive 11x zoom range that costs around £410 and includes a silent ultrasonic focusing motor and image stabilisation.
