This lens is cheap. Both in price and construction. With that in mind, it is a good product. Pictures are sharp, as the glass is of the typically great quality. The vr works adequately.

A really good all-around lens. If I had to take only one lens on vacation, this would be it. The combination of wide angle and zoom make it very versatile. Some reviewers have complained of lens creep - the model I received had a manual lock that prevented creep, but you have to unlock it every time...

The IS function works good as long as you're not over-caffeinated, I imagine a system built into the camera body works better though; Decent focusing speed and low-light performance; Great zoom and wide angle.

Heavy; Obvious vignetting; Obvious spherical aberration, Power consumption is high with the IS switched on, and ***the IS does not seem to shut off when you turn the camera off!*** I have to shut off the IS independently; of the camera power.

Jack of all trades...

This is Canon's first foray into the superwide to telephoto class of lenses. It still needs some work As the title implies, this lens does a lot, too much in fact. It suffers from the problems associated with long zooms: pincushion and barrel distortion, and the edges aren't very sharp at most...

An excellent all round lens for 90% of your needs

Just to add to a previous review - the zoom actually can be locked so that it does not extend when being worn around the neck - this makes the lens magnificent for a full days action. This is the favourite lens in my collection and normally is resident on the body for general use.

The pictures below illustrate the focal length range from wideangle to telephoto:

Huge 11x focal length range; ideal general purpose and travel lens; Excellent image stabilization system; consistently delivering three to four stops benefit; Good central sharpness at all focal lengths (but inconsistent corners; Attractive rendition of out-of-focus regions of the image; Improved...

Poor sharpness across much of the frame at 18mm and wider apertures; Pronounced barrel distortion at wideangle; and pincushion distortion around 50mm; High levels of chromatic aberration at either end of the zoom range

Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens Review

Gary Wolstenholme reviews the Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS, a popular all-in-one lens covering a massive 11x zoom range.

Good optical performance for a superzoom; Excellent image stabiliser; Decent build quality; Fast focusing

Zoom creep; Barrel distortion at 18mm; No lens hood supplied

Great "do it all" lens

This is a great do-it-all lens covering probably the most frequently used focal lengths that the majority of people will use. Its not a substitute for a good prime lens as the compromises of a superzoom mean a trade off in overall sharpness, however this can only be seen in extreme enlagements and...

Easily Interchangeable; Quick Focus; Rugged; Strong Construction
