These lenses have been and continue to be a good value when purchased as a starter lens in a DSLR kit, but they have never been a strongly desired lens...

Handling and features This is the latest incarnation of Canon's 18-55mm image stabilised kit lens for EF-S compatible EOS cameras sporting their new STM stepping motor technology, which promises to provide smooth, silent autofocus, especially well-suited for shooting video.

I originally purchased the 18-55mm IS II from Canon (it came with a T4i bundle). That lens recently broke so I needed to find a replacement and after doing lots of research of lens in that range I decided to give the STM version a try. This lens is sooo much nicer than the IS II version.

I purchased this lens to go with my Canon T4i as I wanted the best possible video performance and the flexibility of zoom lens. I had considered the 40mm STM lens but for the $ difference this lens is a much better value.

Right now, i got this as a gift to myself for christmas and wont open it until christmas. Im a little nervous, the box was super small and didnt seem packaged too well. But i cant write a review yet as to how it works.

I bought this lens for my new 70D because of video and found it quite acceptable and very good for the price. It works well on auto focus in video mode.

i cant believe how quiet the focus motor is in this lens, its extremly quiet. i think that trying this for video will be a whole different experience.
