Canon EOS 60D Review

What a difference two years makes in DSLR Land. The replacement for 2008's 50D, the new Canon EOS 60D not only has more resolution, higher ISO capability and the ability to take Full HD videos, it even has a swivel LCD screen. Given all these improvements, the price happily remains the same.

Excellent color accuracy; You can actually shoot at 12,800 ISO; Vari-angle LCD a real plus; Superior battery life

Still not a fan of DSLR HD video; focusing is a hassle, "Warm" indoor images with Auto White Balance, Puzzling Multi-control dial

The announcement of the 60D caused a great deal of consternation, particularly amongst existing owners of the X0D series cameras. The slot in the market previously occupied by the 50D is now split between the 7D and the 60D, and the newer model is much more about broadening its appeal to less-expert...

Excellent image quality up to ISO settings unthinkable just one camera generation ago; Extremely high detail and resolution at base ISO; good per-pixel sharpness; Very good low-light performance; with low noise levels and good retention of detail; Good ergonomics; well shaped and comfortable hand

Slow AF in Live Mode reduces benefit of articulated screen for stills shooting; White balance often excessively orange under artificial light; Slight tendency to overexpose in contrasty conditions; Post-processing options oddly arranged (and don't provide access to the Ambience options; Plastic

Review: Canon EOS 60D DSLR camera

(1 items) Canon tends to be conservative with its DSLR upgrades, but it has made a big departure from the norm with the release of the EOS 60D. The 60D ($1100, body only) is a new class of Canon DSLR that's quite different from Canon's EOS 50D and other existing models.

Vari Angle LCD; Wireless flash control built in; Superb video; external mic jack; and audio control; In-camera raw processing and image resizing; Extensive software bundle included; Good battery performance; Excellent image quality; even at high ISO settings

Poor Auto White balance under tungsten lighting; Slow focusing in Live View; Clumsy access to Movie mode

EOS 60D

The Canon EOS 60D is great for anyone looking for a mid-range camera. It isn't as powerful as the high-end EOS 7D but the 60D shoots great pictures even at ISO levels as high as 1,600. Autofocus in generally fast although it is a tad slower in Live View mode.

: Good picture quality; decent ISO performance; HD video recording; articulated LCD screen

: Lacks dedicated video recording button; slow autofocus speed in Live View mode; slow burst shooting mode

A nice camera - fits right in between the Rebel series and 7D

Update: With the release of the T4i, this review needs a short addendum, which I will add to the end. The newest addition to Canon's XXD line might initially seem like a minor downgrade to the previous XXD cameras, but several new capabilities actually help make this a nice, well-featured camera...

Canon EOS 60D review

Replacing the popular Canon EOS 50D , Canon's latest 60D has a whole lot to live up to. Reviving the vari-angle screen for DSLRs of this level seems to be a significant focus point, not least that none of the competition at this price-point offer such a feature.

Image quality; vari-angle LCD

Limited updates over 50D; not a tough build

Canon EOS 60D review

The EOS 60D sits between the EOS 50D and the EOS 7D in Canon's mid-range digital SLR offerings. It's fast, has a vari-angle LCD screen, shoots high-definition video, and has useful built-in image processing. So far, so good.

Fast burst mode; excellent high ISO performance; hinged LCD screen; full HD video recording

8-way control button feels terrible and doesn't always respond

Canon EOS 60D DSLR Review

Ever since the introduction of Canon's EOS 10D in 2003, their twin digit named digital SLRs have proved a popular choice for photographers after more than the entry level bodies offer, but without the extortionate expense of Canon's top-line professional bodies.

Swivel screen for live view shooting; Decent ISO performance; Simplified controls; Excellent handing; Superb video quality; Battery life; Wireless flash facility

Auto ISO could offer more parameters; Shutter lag during live view shooting

Canon EOS 60D

It's only natural to view the Canon 60D as a replacement for the semi-pro EOS 50D .

Pivoting LCD; In camera editing; Wireless flash control; Good image quality; Good video quality; Solid feeling build

Use of plastic on body; Price; Some fiddly controls
