Fitbit Alta HR review: The best fitness tracker for most people

Fitbit just made the slimmest fitness band with continuous heart rate monitoring. With expanded sleep features and week-long battery life, it's a...

Up to 7 days of battery life on a single charge; Insightful sleep-tracking features; Automatic exercise tracking now includes heart rate zones

Lack of built-in or smartphone-connected GPS

Tiny – great software, great hardware too!

Super small and light, this is the first device that I'm wearing on my opposite wrist as a pure tracker and not as a watch replacement.I've gone through multiple watch replacement models and I just don't like any of them enough to give up a well-made timepiece.

Tiny; HR Tracking; Accurate

Not waterproof; tap to touch confuses some..

If you're looking for an attractive, affordable fitness tracker that can handle the basics with little to no problems at all, you should consider the Fitbit Alta. Hardcore gym rats should look elsewhere.

- Sleek; modern design - Silicone strap is very comfortable - 5-day battery life - Accurate step and sleep tracking - Affordable price point - Companion app is easy to use

- Interchangeable bands are pricey - Silicone band can be difficult to put on - No waterproofing - Charging cable is short and awkward to use

Fitbit Alta HR

The hardest thing to predict about a fitness tracker when you buy it is how long you'll actually use it. Many buyers leave theirs to be forgotten in a bedside table after a few months of use.

Slim; comfortable design; Accurate heart-rate monitor; Excellent auto-recognition and recording of activities; Sleep Stages and Sleep Insights are important improvements to overall sleep data; Great battery life

No connected GPS; Not easy to see heart rate during a workout (unless heart rate is your default screen); Nighttime heart-rate data and Sleep Stages separated on two different graphs; Doesn't integrate with Apple's HealthKit

Fitbit Alta

The Fitbit Alta was popular with our testers and performed well during our lab tests. The tracker has a stylish design, with a touchscreen that displays all the information you need to track your daily activity like steps and calories burned.

Sends hourly movement reminders; Displays smartphone notifications; SmartTrack senses the type of exercise; Sweat and splashproof; Interchangeable wristbands; Easy-to-swipe touchscreen; User-friendly app; Sleek and comfortable fit; Automatic sleep tracking

Hard-to-use strap; Tough to read in sunlight; No heart rate monitor; Relatively short battery life

Good fitness tracker

I bought this because it was on sale and it is smaller than the charge hr. The charge does a bit more but otherwise they are very similar. If you want a tracker that isn't so obviously a tracker, this is it!

lightweight

Tells time, lets me know when I receive texts, phone calls and syncs with my phone well. It does what I want it to and I have had no issues with it. It does not do heartbeat but I don't care too much one way or another on that feature.

Love my Fitbit Alta

I was given one for Christmas and I love it! Only problem with these fitbits is the bands tend to come loose or undone. I lost my fitbit because of this, I would definitely recommend getting a one of the other bands that actually has a clasp.

This product has great features

This is my third fitbit. I started out with the flex and then went to the Charge HR. I am really loving this one. I only hope that it lasts more than a year or year and half. It has changeable bands, battery power lasts longer than the others did.

Really like it

I have been wanting to get one of these devices for some time now but was not willing to give up my watches. I found the Fitbit to fit my right arm and not look awkward when wearing my watch on my left arm.
