HP Scanjet G3110 Photo Scanner

The HP Scanjet G3110 Photo Scanner ($99 direct) is both more and less than you might expect. It's more because it offers what sounds like a lot of capability for the price-4,800-pixel-per-inch (ppi) optical resolution and the ability to scan up to four 35mm slides at once, or one strip of 35mm film...

Does a reasonably good job with photographic prints; Convenience scanning for slides and strips of film

Slow; Customizing settings is cumbersome

HP Scanjet G3110 review

The HP Scanjet G3110 has a dark gray body and a shiny and curved, off-white lid. Four buttons built into the lid allow you to scan to file, PDF, to email or to a printer (copy). The transparency adaptor allows you to scan a single 35mm filmstrip or four individual slides.

HP Scanjet G3110

A flatbed scanner with a transparency and negative adapter built into its lid will normally cost you over £100, but HP's Scanjet G3110 beats this price by over 10 percent and looks good into the bargain.

Straight to PDF scan; Quick OCR conversion; Colour restoration and dust removal

Slow scans; even for price; Driver installation glitch; OCR not that accurate

When I found this on clearance for $80 in an office store several years ago, I excitedly looked it up online to be sure it was listed as working with Linux, then got it. Unfortunately, unlike everything else I've used in Linux, the G3110 performed abysmally.

fine scanner

Scanning pictures so far, I do intend on scanning negatives and slides also. I am starting to understand the software a little better now. Good results so far.

scanning

This product does a good job of scanning slides, except when they are quite dark. I usually scan them by themselves and then can solve the problem.. It is also nice to not to have to put a mask on the flatbed to scan slides. I t also does a good job with photos.

Awesome deal [...]

I used this to archive family heirloom photos dating back to the 1800s. My only complaint is that it was advertised as including software to remove dust and scratches, etc, but didn't come with anything like that. That aside, it works perfectly.

Accurate Thumbnails; Consistent; Fast; Good Bit Depth; Good Resolution
