I absolutely love this lens. It's great for portraits being as it's fixed. I shoot on Nikon D800 and the quality and clarity this lens gives is amazing. I know it can be used for macro photography, however, I shoot events such as Bar Mitzvahs and Weddings so I was looking for a reasonably priced...

Nikon 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED AF-S VR Micro Nikkor review by whmitty

I was using a Nikon D7000 when I first got the lens and could not have been more satisfied with the images it produced. I now own a Nikon D600 and the lens continues to produce simply indescribably beautiful images.

Stunningly sharp; AF and VRII actually works well doing 1:1 macro imaging

A tad heavy

Very sharp lens and beautiful photos on an Epson D300. It is heavy and a bit cumbersome, but all is forgiven when the photos show up on the computer screen or in prints. Ideal macro lens -- right focal length (at least for my tastes.

Sharp

Automatic focus sometimes hard to achieve; Generally use manual most of the time; VR doesn't work reliable at close distances; For photos this close one should be using a tripod anyone so no big deal

Nikon needs to re-think this one!

EXTREMELY disappointed!!! For nearly 800 bucks this lens is far from special. vibration reduction REALLY!! Ken Rockwell was right on. Pass this one by!

I honestly cannot think of any!

Poor focus; Poor vibration reduction; A DOG!

It is a good lens to have if your a macro lover. It produces beautiful bokeh and can be use instead of an 85 prime but with an apreture of F/2.8-3.2. They are plenty of Macro lens on the market and I would recommend them over this high price Nikon lens.

Build Quality: This lens got all the bell and whistles; Focus limiter/VR/Macro of course.AM/M switch with Nano; Image quality :is very good but that is the case with all macro lenses made.

Heavy Autofocus is slow but shouldn't be a problem for Macro work; Price is on the high side while they are plenty of better an other options for better value VR isn't usful for most Macro work unless you are shooting close up of flowers and objects of that size where you don't need to be super...

Not only is it a large optic, it works out at 120g heavier than Canon's 100mm macro, weighing in at a mighty 720g. It's unique in that it's the only lens to incorporate optical image stabilisation with Nikon's Vibration Reduction (VR II) function offering the equivalent stability of a shutter speed...

Liked the non VR better

This is a great lens, but I'm not sure why I own it. I loved the non VR version of this and a voice in my head told me that this would be better. Perhaps it will if I ever shoot this focal length without a tripod, but I don't.
