Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II review

Three years ago Olympus turned the compact system camera market on its head with the launch of the OM-D E-M5. This enthusiast-oriented model packed a groundbreaking 5-axis image stabilisation system into its compact, weatherproof, and handsomely retro-styled body.

Excellent JPEG image quality; Fast; responsive operation; Robust; weather-resistant body; Almost all controls can be customised to suit the user

Complex menus are difficult to master; Connectors interfere with articulated screen; Raw image quality can't quite match larger sensor cameras

It''s Amazing

I'm selling my big Nikon camera and all the accessories. it's just too much weight to bear.the entire Olympus camera with lenses weighs less than 1 professional lens on the Nikon.

this camera is lightweight, clear and can compete with any full frame camera; The options are so incredible one would not believe it's all in this little camera; You have to see it try it to believe it

nothing so far

Great value micro four third camera

I originally purchased this camera in June. It,along with my lenses, was stolen whilst on holidays. It is so good I had to buy the EM5ii again. Highly customizable, weather proof, and fantastic image quality, either in RAW or the equally beautiful Super Fine JPEG files the Olympus can render.

Fab camera

Fab camera. Just rather disappointed that JL dropped the price by over £100 just after I bought it.

Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II Review

Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II Review - The Olympus E-M5 Mark II takes over from the popular E-M5 Mark I, and although it looks similar to its predecessor it features a wide range of core enhancements

Excellent operating speed; Great build quality including weather resistance; Full customisation of most controls Great JPEG image quality

Raw image quality doesn't quite match competition; Menu interface somewhat challenging; A few design errors

Olympus E-M5 II

A follow-up to the first Micro Four Thirds OM-D series camera, the Olympus E-M5 II has a tough act to follow. Absolutely bursting at the seams with the latest technology -- including a unique high resolution mode that takes it far beyond what its sensor should be capable of -- this 16-megapixel...

Excellent handling in a compact, weather-sealed body; Crisp, roomy electronic viewfinder; Image quality that can take the fight to APS-C DSLRs; Unique high-res mode lets it bat far above its weight for static scenes; Extremely fast 10 fps burst shooting, Excellent video feature set, Great handling...

Control dials are easily bumped; Below-average battery life at default settings; Buffer depths for raw shooters are a bit limited; 16-megapixel sensor resolution feels dated; Weak bundled flash strobe, Front and rear control dials are too easily bumped, changing settings by mistake, Speaker is...

Olympus has issued an OM-D E-M5 II firmware update, and you can find out how to download and install it at this . At first glance the OM-D E-M5 II firmware update 1.1 looks relatively minor, with just three changes, but two of them are actually quite important.

High quality feel; Impressive 40MP/64MP images; Excellent 5-axis image stabilisation

High Res mode demands a tripod and a still subject; Some fiddly and complex controls; Smaller sensor than some rival CSCs
