Samyang 85mm T1.5 AS IF UMC Lens Review

By: yobellzaa 1365 days ago Handling and Features Performance Verdict Specification This manual focus medium telephoto lens, offers a fast T1.5 maximum aperture for a budget price of around £300.

Incredibly inexpensive; Excellent sharpness; Low distortion and CA; Good build

No hyperfocal scale or hard focusing stop for infinity; Minimum focus distance of 1m may be a little restrictive; Flimsy hood

Fantastic Glass

This product is amazing, for both a starting kit or if you have a well established set of gear. It is probably one of the best lenses I have used in terms of bang for its buck. It is impeccably sharp and the manual aperture is a personally preferred over digital. It is a must.

Absolutely phenomenal for the price! and Im used to "L" glass

I have the non cine Gmount version of this lens (actually two of them now) They are identical except for the focus ring having grooves and the de-clicked aperture. I'm also using mine for video, but on the GH4 shooting 4K with Metabones Speed booster!

Fantastic Lens

Just a great lens, what else can I say about it Sharp as a tack, long focus throw, renders colour nicely. I've been using it for interviews alongside a 24-105L and I think it's a bit sharper than the Canon. Great for photos too, if you don't mind manual focus, it's my go to portrait lens.

Incomplete and deceptive description for the Sony alpha vdslr lens

The build quality and everything is great, but this lens is for an a mount camera. So dont be deceived by its alpha name. I bought it for my sony alpha a6000, but unfortunately it didn't fit and had to return it. So my rating is based on the built quality and packaging of the product.

Samyang 85mm T1.5 VDSLR AS IF UMC II

The Samyang 85mm T1.5 VDSLR AS IF UMC II ($399) proves you don't have to break the bank to get a wide-aperture 85mm prime lens , as long as you're willing to sacrifice autofocus. The 85mm focal length has long been a favorite of portrait photographers, and serves that purpose well on full-frame and...

Geared for cinema use; Very sharp when stopped down; Even illumination across frame; Minimal distortion; Available for multiple systems; Affordable

A bit soft at f/1.4; Manual focus design is not for everyone; Omits optical stabilization
