Great range at a good price

So far no sign of lens creep, common to many extended range zooms. Seems sharp throughout range, and the macro setting is an added plus.

Price; range

Might seem heavy to some; but not this old guy

Lens Test: Sigma 18–250mm f/3.5–6.3 DC OS HSM AF

At 13.8X, this digital-only 29-400mm equivalent (on DSLRs with 1.6X lens factors) offers the broadest zoom range of any Sigma lens. Joining Sigma's first digital-only superzoom of 2004, the 18-200mm, this $530 (street) lens adds optical stabilization (OS), four elements of super-low-dispersion glass...

Good All Rounder

Since this is an all rounder lens, don't expect the sharpness of a prime lens. It works good, but care has to be taken to click without chromatic aberration. Not as sharp as Nikkor but that is not gonna be a real issue.

Sigma introduced this lens in 2009, as an upgrade to its 18-200mm lens. The lens comes in Sigma, Canon, Nikon, and Pentax mounts, and it includes optical stabilization (as denoted by the "OS" in the lens' title).

Awesome walkabout lens

I wanted a solid walkabout lens for my D5100 without breaking the bank. I had the option of buying the Nikon 18-300 for about $1000 or a 3rd party lens. I really did't want to invest too much in glass for a D series mount as I can see myself moving up to an F series in a couple of years.

SIGMA 18-250MM DC MACRO OS NIKON

"This is a very nice lens for travel. It will increase my reach and give me macro option as well. It balance well with D5100 body very well. It feel good on your hand.Another plus is the price, almost 50% less than Nikon's 18-200MM.

Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM

Very quality lens, half the price of the similar nikon model. Very good sharpness at F8-F11, at almost all focal lengths. Small and light, OS is working well. Compatibility problems with the new nikon bodies.

Sharp!; Good close up; OS working well; light and small; price

Compatibility problems; creep when unlocked

The new Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM differs from Sigma's earlier 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM lens in that it's physically smaller and lighter, it has better macro capability and it uses sigma's TSC (thermally stable composite) material which minimizes the effect of temperature on the...

TSC, which is incorporated into the lens barrel and is often compared to polycarbonate, has a high degree of elasticity and exhibits little variation in its structure in extreme temperature conditions.
