Great range at a good price

So far no sign of lens creep, common to many extended range zooms. Seems sharp throughout range, and the macro setting is an added plus.

Price; range

Might seem heavy to some; but not this old guy

Awesome walkabout lens

I wanted a solid walkabout lens for my D5100 without breaking the bank. I had the option of buying the Nikon 18-300 for about $1000 or a 3rd party lens. I really did't want to invest too much in glass for a D series mount as I can see myself moving up to an F series in a couple of years.

SIGMA 18-250MM DC MACRO OS NIKON

"This is a very nice lens for travel. It will increase my reach and give me macro option as well. It balance well with D5100 body very well. It feel good on your hand.Another plus is the price, almost 50% less than Nikon's 18-200MM.

Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM

Very quality lens, half the price of the similar nikon model. Very good sharpness at F8-F11, at almost all focal lengths. Small and light, OS is working well. Compatibility problems with the new nikon bodies.

Sharp!; Good close up; OS working well; light and small; price

Compatibility problems; creep when unlocked

I use this little gem of a lens whenever I travel. Like all super zooms, it has compromises, but the main one of reduced apertures, is compensated for by the high ISO capability of modern cameras. The longest focal length is also very useful for nature and macro shots.

Light; compact; sharp; fast focus; very usable focal range

No full-time manual focus; though I seldom use this on other lenses

Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC SLD OS HSM Review

Sigma's lens was tested here using a Canon EOS 40D, on which it focused reasonably quickly (but not remarkably so) and very reliably. Sadly, but not unusually for a lens of this type, the focusing ring rotates and there is no option to apply adjustments when the lens is set to AF mode.

Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM

Photographers often have to compromise when it comes to third-party lenses, particularly ones that cover such extreme focal lengths as the 18-250mm. This Sigma model is excellent value for money, offering good sharpness and performance, with a lengthy zoom.

Very lightweight and compact; Pleasing bokeh; Excellent sharpness at the telephoto reach

No manual focus override in AF mode
