Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM Review

Handling and features Performance Verdict Specification This 13.8x superzoom lens is compatible with Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Sony and Sigma DSLRs that have an APS-C sized sensor or smaller.

Very good performance for a superzoom; Effective optical Stabilisation; Compact size; Light weight; Good build quality

f/6.3 max aperture at 250mm is relatively slow; No full time manual focus override (which isn't really much of an issue

A one-lens solution like this 18-250mm Sigma optic is a very popular option with photographers, because you only need to attach the one lens to your camera and you can enjoy a whole range of shooting options.

Great Versatile Lens

I bought this lens to travel with so I don't have to carry multiple lenses and am very happy with it. I used the Tamron 19-270 equivalent for a few days and found it to be poor quality, didn't want to spring for the Nikon 18-200, and didn't like the midrange distortion that reviews show in the Sigma...

A Great All Round Lens.

I brought this lens to use as an all in one on holiday because I did not want to be laden with all different lenses, the only other one I took was a wide angle for special land scape and night images or though the 18-250 would have worked too but just needed to take that one other special lens.

Lightweight; Quick Focus; Sharp Focus; Strong Construction

Good all around lens

General uses inside and outside. Scenery and people, portraits, etc. Only reason I gave it 4 and not 5 stars is the need to switch off Auto focus, in order to manual focus, unlike Canon USM lenses. Also it stops down to 5.6 sooner than Canon's 18-135.

Comes with Hood; Compact When Retracted; Great zoom range; Light Weight; Quiet

Manual Focus Is Switched; Slower Ap Than Desired

Good All Rounder

Since this is an all rounder lens, don't expect the sharpness of a prime lens. It works good, but care has to be taken to click without chromatic aberration. Not as sharp as Nikkor but that is not gonna be a real issue.

The Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM, perhaps unsurprisingly, seems very much to be a case of 'take the 18-200mm OS , make it longer', and exhibits much the same characteristics as the older design.

Huge 13.9x focal length range; ideal general purpose and travel lens; Good image quality in the wide to short telephoto range; Fast; quiet autofocus; Low distortion (for a superzoom; Good build quality; smooth zooming action and no zoom creep

Very inconsistent sharpness through the zoom range - extremely soft at 135mm; Soft corners at almost all focal lengths; Image stabilization not as effective as on similar lenses; especially at telephoto end

Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM review

The Sigma 18-250mm F3.6-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM is one of the best of the current bunch of SLR superzooms, with decent optics, fast autofocus and effective image stabilization. It's a reliable performer, and its close-up capability is handy too.

Photographers looking for a compact, lightweight, all-in-one general purpose and travel lens.;

Anyone unwilling to sacrifice image quality for convenience;
