Sony FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS

The Sony FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS ($499.99 list) is the first zoom lens available for Sony's full-frame mirrorless camera system. It has the same limitations as most kit lenses, including some very noticeable distortion and soft edges at wider apertures.

Good center sharpness; Optically stabilized design

Lots of distortion at wide and telephoto ends; Soft edges unless stopped down

Pretty good for kit - full frame!

I really have to say, I'm enjoying this lens - I have other more expensive sony fe lenses and while they are good, I can't say they all outshine this one for everyday use. On the a7ii it's great - colours are spot on, and even in low light it's pretty good!

I bought this based on the Ken Rockwell review. Yes, it's the old A7 kit lens, but considering the interior of the Zeiss is also plastic and this was reported to be a little sharper overall I bought it. I have one commercial shoot done with this on the A7S and I'm really satisfied.

Sony FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS SEL2870 review by nippa

Given reviews that I'd read I thought that I'd be changing this for the Zeiss equivalent but not so. At its worst setting at 70mm the edges are soft wide open but stopped down to F8 all is well again. Perhaps the best kit lens I've seen since the LUMIX 14-45.

Light stabilised and sealed with good resolution and nice bokeh

High quality plastic

Don't Let the Lack of Warranty Scare You

I recently upgraded to a Sony Mirrorless setup for professional work and this was the only lens I decided to invest in from the jump. Yeah, it's an international version but I've used international copies of lenses with my Nikon rig for years without any issue so I decided to make the same gamble...

Seems like a VERY nice boy

So far I love it. It appears sharp though rather large sitting on my Sony A6000. It gives 42.5mm to 105 (full frame equivalent) on my dslr equivalent Sony, which is a handy range for many occasions. It has stabilisation also. Overall, quite pleased so far.

A very good performer

Personally I enjoy using this kit lens - out there, in real life, away from charts and all that, the IQ is actually very good for a kit lens and performs very well on the a7m2 and a6000.

The Sony FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 A Most Excellent Lens

Probably the best cheap Kit zoom in the standard short zoom lens kit class, very good value for money, the best thing about this lens is optically very sharp, almost silent, the zoom control feels very positive with a classy feel resistance grip, but above all it takes very good pictures and stable...

Sony 28-70 lens

You get what you pay for. Picture quality was pretty good, focus was quick but the zoom was rough. It felt like it was made of cheap plastic Sent it back.

Reasonable kit lens

It came as a kit lens, and from reviews I wasn't expecting too much. After lots of testing I found it actually pretty sharp, but you have to be careful to get the best out of it. If focused at infinity then objects at infinity which are on the edge of the frame are not truly sharp.

Fairly Sharp; Lightweight

Fussy Focussing
