I have got this lens a week ago. Were a little bit skeptical because of low price but was very surprised after very first shots. F 1.8 makes a huge differents combined how much light this lens can bring.

Only the middle groups of the optical system move to achieve focus, so the overall length of the lens does not change when focusing. This is especially important when using for video recording. Other important benefits include fast autofocusing and a short minimum focusing distance.

Sony introduces the FE 85mm f/1.8 lens, a lower cost option for the full frame FE series. This new lens is suitable for the A7 series of full frame mirrorless cameras, and of course can also be employed on the APS-C models, where it gives a "35mm format" equivalent of 127.5mm.

Bought this along with my A7R III. It is a solid lens and excellent Bokeh. I get great pictures even from fast moving toddlers and dogs. Even performs great on continuous shooting mode. The price point on this lens is the icing on the cake.

Since the Zeiss 85 and the Sony G Master 85 were so expensive I held out for almost a year. I used the excellent Sony Zeiss 55 1.8 for close up portraits. But eventually Sony put out the way more affordable 85 1.8. As soon as I got it (I was one of the first to order it) I was hooked!
