iPhone 7 review: Apple sets the stage for 2017

"Is the iPhone 7 worth upgrading to?" This is the question I've been asked by friends, family and MobileSyrup readers since the somewhat controversial iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were revealed.

Sleek new colour options (Jet black and Black; One of the most powerful smartphones on the market; Taptic Engine is great; Waterproof; Camera is incredible; especially in the 7 Plus

No headphone jack (for some; this is a dealbreaker; An iterative update; Screen resolution has not been improved; Jet Black is a fingerprint magnet

Apple iPhone 7

The Apple iPhone 7 keeps the same look as the previous model, but is now water-resistant and comes in a Jet Black colour option. The iPhone 7 is faster, with more memory, a better camera and longer battery life, but the price has gone up again. Oh, and the headphone jack has been removed.

Apple iPhone 7 and 7 Plus review: Are they worth your money?

The Apple iPhone 7 and 7 Plus might not have the bells and whistles or spanking new design of their competitors, but they are still undoubtedly two of the best smartphones in the market. Personally, the dual-camera of iPhone 7 Plus is enough for me to upgrade my iPhone 6s Plus.

iPhone 7

When we reviewed the iPhone 7 last year, it didn't score very highly for a flagship Apple device. Disappointing battery life was the main culprit, but a design that hadn't changed much in three iterations didn't help either.

Great screen and speakers; Incredible performance; Water resistant; Excellent camera; Clever Haptic engine

Poor battery life; Looks the same; Where's the headphone jack; Expensive

Apple iPhone 7

Apple has a reputation for deciding it knows best. It led the way in ridding the world of floppy drives, made laptops skinnier by losing the optical drive and turned the internet on its head with its refusal to support Flash on mobile devices.

Premium build; Fast performance; More vibrant colours; Good camera; Refined; rhythmic sound

No headphone jack is inconvenient; Bundled EarPods are average; Battery life still needs work

Apple iPhone 7 in-depth review - Lucky number?

Apple's shiny new iPhone 7 was launched with the full force of iOS 10 and is one of the most hotly anticipated smartphones this year. But has much really changed since the launch of the iPhone 6S?

Water resistant; Stunning design; iOS 10 fantastic; improved camera

Need an adapter to use wired headphones; form factor seems very jaded

Apple iPhone 7 review: Refining the design rather than ripping it up and starting again

"It is the best iPhone yet", proclaimed Tim Cook on the stage at Apple's Special Event in San Francisco at the beginning of the September last year. He would be right, the iPhone 7 is, but it is not the leap of technological advancement that many of the fanboys would have liked or hoped for.

Refined design and new finishes make for best-looking iPhone to date; great camera with image stabilisation; iOS 10 makes for the most in-depth use yet; new Home button works brilliantly

More like an S version of the iPhone 6S than a total overhaul; still no wireless charging; no dual cameras feature here; no true battery improvement; no headphone jack will irk some

Apple iPhone 7 Review

Overall, the Apple iPhone 7 is a fantastic phone, providing serious competition to the basically perfect Samsung Galaxy S7. It's the best iPhone ever made, without a doubt. It's very pleasing to see Apple make its (very) expensive device water resistant, to reduce the likelihood of it breaking due...

Better battery; Excellent camera capabilities; More powerful processor; Dust and water resistant

No 3.5mm headphone jack; No 64Gb memory option; Similar to iPhone 6s; Very expensive

Apple iPhone 7

The Apple iPhone 7 is the latest iOS smartphone and is the follow up to last year's iPhone 6S. It features a 12 megapixel camera, with an f/1.8 fixed length (28mm equivalent) lens.

iPhone 7 review: AR will soon be available for £75

Apple's latest iPhone hits all the familiar notes you'd expect it to, and while it's still an amazing device, there's nothing here that we haven't seen before. If you're due for an upgrade, you're unlikely to be disappointed, but don't rush out to buy one.

One of the fastest phones we've ever tested; Excellent camera; iOS 10 has huge potential,

Jet black option feels tacky; No headphone port; No real advancements or innovations
