"nice works only, thanks!"

This is a follow-up to my 2015 review. This lens still continues to blow me away in full frame format. It has to be one of Canon's most underrated lenses. It excels in all possible ways. My prior review primarily focused on landscape photography at smaller apertures.

I picked this lens up from Amazon used for $250. The focus on it is fast and mostly accurate and it allows you to get good pictures in many situations. Only issue I've noticed with the lens is that there's a moderate anount of chromatic abbretion when using it in sunny weather at a larger aperture.

I no longer have this lens, but I really enjoyed it while I did. The quality it produces is really excellent. AF is very quick and responsive and it works great in low light. My only complaint is that the build quality could have been better.

This lens rocks: It is fast, sharp even at f/2.0 and focuses quietly. I do not see any distortion on pictures taken with this lens. Contrast is also very good, while light fall-off is barely noticeable. The bokeh produced by this gem is a joy to see.

The optical construction is made of 8 elements in 6 groups without any special elements (which aren't really common in this lens class anyway). The lens features 8 aperture blades. The filter size is 58mm.

If you're looking for a canon portrait lens, but don't want to go to the extent of the L series, but don't want to compromise, then the Canon EF 100mm f/2 USM is for you. Offering stellar performance at a brilliant price point, this 100mm won't let you down.

Outstanding lens for macro work, but equally great for portraiture. Superb sharpness. Best to manual focus using a tripod for macro images. Canon is all I use because it's the best !
