This can be had for as little as £602 on the store that starts with A, yet its £999 here and you have to factor in the cost of paying for it weekly too, so you are looking at over double the price.

... is mark II but this one is already an excellent lens, very sharp

I know there is mark II but this one is already an excellent lens, very sharp, works well with crop and full frame cameras, excellent all rounder. It is heavy and IS a bit noisy so probably not good choice for making videos but an excellent glass for stills.

Long zoom range; Fixed maximum aperture; Solid L-series build; Excellent sharpness at wider angles; Optical stabilization; 1:4.3 macro magnification

Heavy distortion and noticeable vignette at wide angles; Very soft edges at longer focal lengths; Pricey

Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Review

The Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM ($999.99) is a pricey lens in the company's premium line of L-series glass. Its design is appealing on paper: a 4.4x zoom with a maximum f/4 aperture throughout its range, a tough, dust- and splash-resistant design, and a close focus range that projects images onto the sensor at about one quarter life-size. At wider angles it's quite sharp, albeit with dimmed corners, and if it maintained that level throughout its range we'd recommend it highly. But image quality falls off as you move beyond 50mm. If you're in the market for a 24-105mm, you're better off with our Editors' Choice, the Sigma 24-105mm F4 DG OS HSM. DesignThe 24-105mm measures 4.2 by 3.3 inches (HD), weighs about 1.5 pounds, and supports 77mm front filters. Like other L lenses it has a rubber gasket around the lens mount and, when coupled with a front filter, is protected from dust and splashes. A lens hood and carrying pouch is included, along with standard front and rear caps. T...

The Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens delivers strong sharpness at wide angles, but image quality really suffers when zoomed in—overall, it's priced too high for the performance it delivers.

Long zoom range; Fixed maximum aperture; Solid L-series build; Excellent sharpness at wider angles; Optical stabilization; 1:4.3 macro magnification

Heavy distortion and noticeable vignette at wide angles; Very soft edges at longer focal lengths; Pricey

Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 USM L IS - Retest @ 15mp (APS-C)

The Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 USM L IS produced pretty good quality figures in our tests. The resolution is generally very high throughout the tested range with the exception of 70mm and 105mm @ f/4 where the border quality tanked somewhat - this may originate in a slight centering issue of our test...

The combo Canon 5D MK2 and Canon 24-105 mm I use a lot. But, it must be said, files made with a Canon 70-200 2.8 II look crispier. Futhermore, bokeh of the 24-105 is pretty bad. Here my complete story: www.camerastuffreview.com/en/component/content/article/57-test-canon-24-105-is

Low vignetting Fast AF Handy zoom range· Seal against dust and water

Strong distortion at 24 mm A bit too high chromatic aberration at 24 mm Not a very nice bokeh Hefty purchase price in relation to moderate resolution in the corners at 24 and 105 mm

Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM

The lens did however have a rocky start, with early models suffering from an internal flare problem , forcing returns and delaying wider distribution. These issues seem to have been solved now though, and certainly the versions we've tested exhibited no problems in this regard.

Useful wide to short telephoto range; Effective anti-shake IS capability; Fast and quiet USM focusing motor; Polariser-friendly internal focusing

Relatively expensive (at list price; Corners slightly soft at telephoto end; 24-70 f/2.8L has better build and focusing; 17-40mm f/4L an affordable alternative

Only worked for one day then stopped working altogether

I bought this lens partially for it's versatility, but the timing of the purchase was to shoot pictures for a friend's wedding. I tested the lens out the week before and it worked fine and I ensured it was compatible with my canon cameras.

I bought this zoom in 2005. I did not like the 24-70 F2.8 to walk around. To big. The IS is incredible, IQ is oke and I love the range. That 35 mm extra at the end is very nice. I still think this is the most versatile zoom there is. Go on holiday, take this zoom and a EF 50mm F1.2L with you.

Very nice relative small and light walk around lens with perfect range on FF; If you chose one (zoom)lens to take along this is maybe the one; IS is nice

Nothing special, F4.0 but that why it is small and light; Construction failure, my copy creeps like mad; I put an elastic string around the zoomring, that helps; But a lock would have been nice

It does everything I thought it should

I have had the lense for 3 weeks and during that time have used it both in the field and for some bench work with flowers. I have been very happy with all aspects of this lense, except the weight and I knew about that going in.

Consistent Output; Quick Focus; Rugged; Sharp Focus; Strong Construction
