Was pleased with the quality of photos I was able to capture with this camera, nice to find a large sensor in a point-and-shoot, but incredibly disappointed that in less than 2 years the the shutter won't close rending the camera entirely un-usable.

I purchased the G1 X MII to complement my EOS 7D MII. I hoped to make landscape photos (almost) the same quality as with the EOS when I go outside to the mountains and I am lazy to carry the bag with EOS+lenses. And it works ! Threre are anyway few reasons I couldn't give 5 stars.
Love this camera! I'm a professional photographer and I needed a nice camera for my vacations! This is the best one!
For a compact camera, the Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II has a large image sensor; in fact, it is slightly larger than the sensor found in Micro Four Thirds cameras. The G1 X II offers a moderate resolution of 13 megapixels, with maximum resolution in images with an aspect ratio of 4:3.
This camera has been a HUGE disappointment. The pictures are blurry, low resolution crap that can be outdone by my iPhone. Anything with the slightest movement makes for a messy, worthless picture. It shot badly straight out of the box. Many of them are washed out and grainy.
Fantastic lens with big aperture at wide end; Very low noise sensor; Wonderful images, to buy a lens for another system would cost you more than this camera
Heavy and not really pocketable; No viewfinder though I purchased the add on EVF which I haven't used as much as I thought I would; If you buy the camera try without first b4 buying EVF
This camera is larger and heavier than most of the cameras in our lineup, but it doesn't offer significant improvements in other areas. It's a great camera, but it isn't difficult to find smaller cameras that perform similarly.
A lens with dual-control rings makes for natural shooting and adjustment
This camera is significantly heavier than the other cameras we reviewed
this is the most upmarket of Canon's compacts, it's made of metal and has a lens that goes to f2 at the wideangle end, and to 24mm equivalent. But as a result of both these features, it's much bigger than typical compacts, and heavier. If this is not a problem for you then it does well.
My new "go everywhere" camera. I love it. it is like a G12 on steroids. It is a bit bigger, but has a similar layout of controls, a faster higher quality lens, two control rings on the lens, a pop-up flash and a great EVF.
A seriously well specified compact camera that produces simply superb files for it's size. As a happy G1X owner I was looking to see if the next model would improve upon the first and it does. Not only with the wider, longer, faster, sharper lens, but also in usability.
