[REVIEW-CANON POWERSHOT G16]

This 12.1 mega pixel camera has a stabilised 5x optical zoom (28-140mm 35mm equiv) with f1.8-2.8 aperture. It is unusual in having an optical viewfinder, albeit slightly obscured by the lens barrel. The 75mm LCD is non-swivelling and of good resolution.

Canon PowerShot G16 camera

Canon's PowerShot G16 is a small and sturdy compact camera that can capture clear and vibrant photos if given the chance. It's a little camera from a series that's been in business since the year 2000 and this is the 13th version (Canon skipped the G13 and G14 and added G1 X in 2012).

Solid build quality; Small size; F/1.8 lens; Fast performance

Wi-Fi didn't always work properly for us; Screen isn't hinged; No EVF

Canon PowerShot G16

As a news announcement, Canon's PowerShot G16 enthusiast compact was a bit of a yawner: basically, it gains Wi-Fi and 1080/60p video over its predecessor, the G15 . As a camera, though, the G series is slowly improving.

The Canon PowerShot G16 produces very good photos in bright light, and the fast lens, optical viewfinder, and relatively streamlined design make it nice to use; Plus, it finally delivers solid continuous shooting

A mediocre Wi-Fi implementation, no articulated LCD, and lack of manual controls while shooting video are among the ways in which the G16 lags behind the competition; And other cameras deliver better photos in low light

Canon PowerShot G16 Review

On paper, Canon's PowerShot G16 has specs that match those of DSLR and CSC cameras. Unfortunately, a small sensor holds it back from its full potential.

Good photos and videos; Enhanced response (fps; focusing; Fast performance; Improved Wi-Fi implementation

Noisy at high ISOs; Expensive for the image quality you get

As a camera reviewer, I find the Canon PowerShot G16 relatively uninteresting. But if I were in the market for a new high-end zoom compact, I'd definitely be considering it. This might sound like a contradiction, but it's not - new stuff is more exciting than stuff we've seen before, and the G16...

Canon Powershot G16 Review

The Canon Powershot G16 offers a number of improvements over the previous model, including a number of new and useful shooting modes including Handheld HDR, Star modes, and built in Wi-Fi for quicker sharing, although the lack of remote shooting will be disappointing to many.

Excellent image quality; Fast f/1.8-2.8 lens; Handheld HDR; Wi-Fi connectivity; 12fps continuous shooting; Optical viewfinder (although small etc; Excellent build quality; Manual focus with focus peaking; Dual axis electronic level; 60fps FullHD video recording; 5-axis IS for videos; Eco mode...

Lacks automatic panorama creation; Optical viewfinder is small; High price
