Canon PowerShot V10 review: A vlog camera in dire need of an audience

The PowerShot V10 is Canon's first real attempt at a vlogging camera, but it's worth pointing out that the company already makes several cameras that are ideal for vloggers – not only in the PowerShot compact range but also in its mirrorless EOS R and EOS M lines. In fact, the V10 feels decidedly underpowered next to pretty much all of them, and its faults are likely to frustrate anyone who bought it expecting a major step up over a smartphone. While the V10's size and simple controls are appealing, prospective vlog stars may well be better to stick with their phone for the time being, and use the money instead to put towards a bigger, better camera that will really take their videos to new heights.

Genuinely pocketable design; Handy built-in stand; Good image quality in the right conditions;

Unreliable autofocus performance; Tiny screen; No portrait shooting option (except rotating the camera);

Canon PowerShot V10 Vlog Camera (Silver) - Brand New review

Despite some impressive aspects, Canon’s first vlogging camera feels like a white elephant. Its quality and features aren’t good enough to convince budding content creators to replace their smartphones, while those looking to produce professional-looking videos will do far better by saving up a...

Lightweight pocket-sized build, Good build quality and sturdy stand, Image quality beats phones in certain conditions, Your smartphone isn’t up to scratch: If your smartphone’s camera is poor and you need a cheap gateway into vlogging, the V10 isn’t a bad one.

9:16 shooting requires rotating the camera, Very small LCD screen, Patchy autofocus performance, You own a high-end handset: If you already own a good quality smartphone, it makes more sense to stick to using that and save your money for a camera that represents a genuine upgrade.

Canon PowerShot V10 Vlog Camera (Silver) - Brand New review

The Canon Powershot V10 isn't perfect, but it's almost impossible not to like it. Considering its skillset, it's best recommended for live streaming and stationary vlogging. If you find one a good deal, you should certainly give it a try!

Canon-quality imagining, Can shoot vertically, Up to 4K and 60fps videos, Compact design that fits in your pocket

Not as rugged as other, UI interface is tailored for people familiar with Canon, Not the best value-for-money gadget, considering the specs

Canon PowerShot V10 Vlog Camera (Silver) - Brand New review

Kudos to Canon for offering an alternative user experience to most other vlogging cameras – the Powershot V10 is purpose-built to make content creation as easy as possible. However, despite its refreshing design, the tech inside is both dated and limited, and there aren’t too many reasons to pick it...

Quirky, pocketable design with stand, Well priced, Clear in-camera audio recording, Plug-and-play webcam

Dated technology, No optical stabilization, Limited recording times, Digital IS not always effective

Canon PowerShot V10 Vlog Camera (Silver) - Brand New review

The PowerShot V10 becomes Canon’s best dedicated vlogging camera to date, taking the quality of the G7X III, but crucially repackaging it into a body designed for filming first. I was happy to trade the zoom for a wider fixed lens, with the broader coverage making it perfect for handheld vlogging or...

Canon PowerShot V10 Vlog Camera (Silver) - Brand New review

The Canon PowerShot V10 combines a 1-inch type sensor similar to the one in the popular PowerShot G7X Mark III with a bright, wide lens and a host of useful features for vloggers wanting to step up from a smartphone to get better image quality and audio without the complications of some other...

While it's a shame that picture and sound quality haven't been upgraded, the iPhone 13 was great in these regards and the iPhone 14 is, too Excellent display Admirable headphone performance Solid build quality No upgrades to picture or sound Familiar design Notch is still present

Canon PowerShot V10 Vlog Camera (Silver) - Brand New review

The Apple iPhone 14 is no match for the just-released iPhone 14 Pro, but if you ignore that, it’s one of the most effective phones around.

Great cameras, front and back, Fast performance, Good battery life, Innovative safety features

Design too familiar, Some average features

Canon PowerShot V10 Vlog Camera (Silver) - Brand New review

Apple's latest non-Pro iPhone is superb - it's just that it's strikingly similar to last year's effort.

Still an incredible smartphone, Brilliant battery life gets a bit better, Excellent camera system gets a bit better

Last year’s Pro hardware, Wireless charging slow by modern standards, No USB-C; it’s now well overdue

Canon PowerShot V10 Vlog Camera (Silver) - Brand New review

More like an iPhone 13S. The generational upgrades for the iPhone 14 are limited to a few subtle changes. At the same time, however, the base price climbs to 800 USD, while the only true innovation happens inside the iPhone 14 Pro series.

excellent OLED display, dust- and waterproof, fast Wi-Fi, wide range of supported frequencies, great camera, very fast performance, good battery life

display limited to 60 Hz, charging rate limited to 20 watts, no macro lens, wide notch
