Dead Rising 2: Off the Record Review

I could've sworn I played this game before. Let's see... zombie-killing game show, Fortune City, and the same series of events unfolding. Does the main character have a daughter? No? Good, because for a second I thought I got the regular Dead Rising 2 instead of Dead Rising 2: Off the Record.

Dead Rising 2: Off The Record (PC)

To start off, I honestly feel I never should have got DR2 and gotten this one instead. If you have a choice between the 2, get this one. It released at a lower price, contains an additional zone, has better/funnier/tongue-in-cheek dialogue, and is 20% cooler.

Dead Rising 2 review

Dead Rising 2 is exactly what a good sequel should be, refining the edges of the original without losing sight of what made it a phenomenon in the first place.

New multiplayer options add value; great weapon creation system; intriguing storyline; vastly improved survivor AI

Loading times; hard to beat psychos; occasionally vague time management

A standalone patch that fixes most problems Dead Rising 2 had, for the low low price of $40 USD. Using the exact same locations, textures, items, and gameplay mechanics as the original, OTR the new content was likely made in a week, and pushed as a new title instead of as a patch and DLC for Dead...

Don't Buy It.

It is absolutely rubbish. The graphics arent atall impressive, Games for Windows Live ruins the co-op. The single player is just plain stupid, basically every mission has a timer, so if you fail the mission then thats the rest of the game over, you have to go back to the checkpoint (Which won't help...

Dead Rising 2: Off the Record (PC) Review

Frank West returns to zombie-slaying action in Dead Rising 2: Off The Record. This Dead Rising 2 reimagining sees the gruff photojournalist facing off against a wider array of monsters, building new weapons, snapping photos, and best of all, mixing it up in a new open-world sandbox mode. Stomping the undead is fun—for a while—but bugs and repetitive gameplay keep Dead Rising 2 from achieving true greatness. The $39.99 Dead Rising 2: Off The Record is available on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360; I reviewed the PC game. A Mix of the Old, a Dash of the NewDead Rising 2: Off The Record wears its intent on its sleeve—the game is all about giving gamers the opportunity to absolutely destroy zombies in myriad ways while rescuing any survivors that they stumble across. Frank West's return as lead character—explained in rather boring cutscenes in Story mode—means that photo opps have also returned as a gameplay element. Snapping pictures of the zombie invasion earns Prestige Points (the game's ver...

Dead Rising 2: Off The Record caters to series fans by adding more weapons, weapon combos, news levels, and a fresh sandbox mode, but the repetitive gameplay may deter others.

Creative ways to combine weapons and dispatch enemies; New sandbox mode lets you bloody zombies without the story weighing you down; Humor

Some bugs; Repetitive gameplay
