Scanning 35mm Slides and More

I bought this over a year ago and finally got around to doing what I need to do, which is start scanning a few thousand 35mm slides taken from about 1970 to 1990. After studying the manual and experimenting, I settled on a set of scanning parameters and decided to use the TIFF file format for master...

Epson Perfection V600 Photo

There are several classes of flatbed scanner, from cheap and cheerful top-of-an-all-in-one class to multi-thousand pound professional art capture devices. Epson's Perfection V600 Photo is aimed at the photo enthusiast, either keen amateur or semi-pro.

Digital ICE dust removal; Excellent OCR results; Good range of transparency holders

Substantial footprint; External power supply; Noisy head drive motors

Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner

This model has terrific image quality with optical resolution of 6400dpi and 48-bit color depth. In that way it matches the best scans you can get from the Epson Perfection V800 but there are some differences which should be noted.

Great all around scanner

I have used other scanners for slides but this scanner is by far the best one. A little slow but get the job done with excellent results. Highly recomend it. Over 1,000 slides scanned and 2,000 more to go.

Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner

The Epson Perfection V600 Photo slots in just above the V500 model but has a lower bit depth than the V700, which we reviewed in March 2006 and which remains as the premium model in Epson's range.

Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner

The Good Nice build quality. Easy to set up. Automated front buttons. OCR and photo editing software included. Can use any scanning software. The Bad EPSON Scan does not yield the best scans. Must spend money on better scan software for best results.

Epson Perfection V600 Photo

As there's no option to calibrate or profile the scanner using the included software, the V600 is limited in its applications to professional photographers or keen hobbyists looking to convert a large quantity of slides or negatives.

Film holders for 35mm; medium format and transparency (slide; Good OCR recognition; Excellent quality flatbed scans

No support for film larger than 120; No calibration or profiling options

Great scanner

I am working on saving over 1,000 slides digitally. These slides are over 40 years old and the scanner is doing a great job. Color is great also. I have tried other scanners in the past and this one is so easy to do.

Great Scanner for Home Use

Use to make electronic copies and restore old family photos as well as other hard copy items, such as warranties to keep records organized electronically and available for printing. Like the Adobe Shop software that came with it.

Accurate Color; Easy document restoration; Easy Setup; Easy to use; Excellent Software; Good Resolution

Cumbersome file naming

Value for Money

Took some time to master the controls (my incompetence not Epson) but once up and running I would have to describe it as a good buy. Reason for 4 stars only is the poor quality of the film carriers. Perhaps there is a reason they are so flexible and seemingly delicate. If so the reason escapes me.
