GoPro HERO5 Session

First off I want to say that the review from MuseumGirl is wrong, you don't need a cellphone at all to use this camera. It just makes it easier to change settings, and use as a viewfinder as this doesn't have a built in screen.

Several times I have tried to use it to on jobs and it pretty much does what it likes

This is a remarkable piece of kit when it's working but it is SOOOO unreliable that I can't really use it for anything involving a client. Several times I have tried to use it to on jobs and it pretty much does what it likes, stops and starts recording randomly missing whole chunks of the action.

Poor quality!

Used four times (and was always well aware it's not made of steel) and then the screw fix holder at the top snaps off! (Was also well aware not to over tighten the bracket during use) Would save your money and look for some other alternative!

As we explained in our review of the GoPro Hero 5 Black , the action camera is not only a worthy inclusion in our gift guide series , it can also be used for business too. But if the $569.95 flagship edition of the Hero is a bit rich for you, there's a smaller, cheaper alternative: the $459.95 GoPro...

Tiny & light: 1st class images

This is a great camera. I use it attached to my helmet with the mount included in the box. It's so light you don't even know it's there and the sound/picture quality is excellent. I use it for scenery capture and getting still images.

GoPro Hero5 Session

GoPro launched a smaller, simpler action camera last year in the Hero4 Session . Simplicity meant it lacked the ability to record 4K, or even 2.7K video. The new Hero5 Session changes that.

Records 4K footage; Excellent video quality for the size; Waterproof without a case

No viewfinder; Awkward controls; No external mic support without an adapter

Review: GoPro Hero5 Black and Hero5 Session

GoPro is the first-if not only-name most people think of when it comes to action cameras. It's not just because the company conquered the market early, but also because its cameras have remained the best and most widely used for a long while.

Both cameras are waterproof without cases; Excellent touchscreen on the Hero5 Black, finally; Voice controls are neat; Best in class image at the resolution you'll use most; Hero5 Session is much improved

GPS doesn't do much yet; Recording indicator on the Hero5 Black is too dim; Cameras are not as sharp in 4K

GoPro Hero5 Session

GoPro's Session camera got off to a rocky start. The tiny cube-shaped shooter -- the smallest the company had ever made -- received praise for its design while simultaneously being bashed for middling video quality and too few features for too high a price.

The GoPro Hero5 Session is a big improvement in video and photo quality from the original Hero Session; Additions like voice control, electronic video stabilization and USB-C help justify the $100 price difference

You'll have to connect to a phone or tablet to see what you're shooting; The built-in battery means that once the battery is drained, you'll have to stop to charge or connect to a power source to keep recording

Last year, GoPro went out on a limb with the GoPro Hero Session. It was the first time the company had overhauled its action camera chassis, and the first GoPro you could use in the wet without having to stick it in a case.
