HP Scanjet G4050 scanner test report

In summer of 2007 HP introduced the Scanjet G4050 as an extremely low-priced flatbed scanner with integrated transparency unit to the market. The scanner can scan not only impinging light content but also slides and negatives up to a size of approximately 20x30 cm.

Unhappy

It may be a great scanner but I cannot get it operational with my IMAC. I have followed all instructions and downloaded from the HP trouble shooting pages and nothing will work. It is not that it is non functional but that the computer will not or cannot read the scanner and nothing will correct it...

cannot use won't work

Just what I wanted

I replaced my canon scanner with a HP Scanjet g4050 recently. While it is the largest scanner I've owned in several years, I now need the ability to scan legal size documents, old canon was just too small for that job.

Hp Scanjet G4050 Photo Flatbed Scanner

What you would expect from a flatbed scanner for speed and quality at this price . I got it because it scans 4x5 negatives and I have a collection from WWII that I want to digitize .

Price; large format film ; lid stays up

Supplied software is marginal at best ; I use Vuescan which does a much better job

worst for slide and negative

we have acquired this scanner for overall scanning but because HP was boosting the suppose ability to scan 25 35mm slide at a time and 30 35mm negative. We never was able to scan a full platen at any one time except at very very low resolution (less than 300dpi).

may be good for handling any printed documentation (Photo; drawing; doc,) Easy software installation

Poor interface Learning curve very long No tweaking possibility Poor end result handling

Good scanner IF you use Vuescan

Bottom line, do not use with the included program. It's horrible, and will cause no end of problems. With a 3rd party program like Vuescan ($40) its an entirely different scanner and can give great output. Be ready to wait though because at maximum resolution this thing is SLOW!!

Looks good; 4 buttons work quickly

Big; takes lots of deskspace; Included program is terrible!!!; SSSSLLLLOOOOWWWW; Does not scan Black and white very well

We have a few of these scanners at work, both this model and the previous G4000 model. All the scanners have repeatedly had the same issue where after working fine for a while, the scanner will scan a small portion of a document (maybe 25%), and then it will fail and give an error message that it...
