It's an okay scanner with lots of features, but you will have to mess with it a lot to get good results.

It will batch scan a lot 35mm strips at a time, that was my rational for buying it over the epson variant which only does two strips of negatives at a time. The stock software is pretty crummy, unlike the epson software (I use the v700 at work), so I bought vuescan software.

I purchased this scanner because I have thousands of old photos from many generations that I wanted to be able to share with relatives. The scanner produces high quality, crisp images notated the age of the original photo. I think the setup was pretty simple too.

Put your helmet on and run away fast

Purchased this when a cheap plastic gear in my Scanjet 5370C wore out with no way to purchase replacement. I have no 3D printer, which could easily make a replacement gear. There is an image of a giant lollypop labeled "Sucker" floating over my head next to the image of a giant wood screw.

Produces 6-color images; Two lamps, one infrared (or ultraviolet) for removing scratches; 4800x9600 resolution; Does lots of 35mm film and slides at once, so says the advertisement

Violet-blue-grey vertical streaks washes white documents. Even with nothing on the scanner glass, the white paper press does not scan in white. Easy to fix in GIMP, increase contrast to +60%; not willing to experiment with color photos

Very good scanner

I use this scanner to copy work documents on PDF file and transfer them to my mobile device. This scanner records very well. The software is also nice as I can crop and darken an old document if needed. The price is great for what this scanner does. I would highly recommend it.

Scan time, not to bad; About 4 to 5 seconds per scan

Great Scanner

I purchased this scanner to convert all my mom's old negatives and photos into digital files. The scanner is easy to use and I love the fact that it can scan 30 negatives at a time and it saves them each into separate files. Once the negatives are set up to scan, I can walk away and do other chores.

Scanjet hints and tips.

The scanner works well and is easy to load with film. At the moment, i am concentrating on the negatives. Film needs to be loaded "up-side- down" (not back to front) from the user point of view. That way, less work needs to be done to get the pictures the right way up on screen.

HP EXCELLENT PHOTO SCANNER

This is a very good scanner. The picture quality is crystal clear. It looks just as real as the original picture put on the scan-bed. If you have 2 gb memory at least, I see no reason for it to crash.

Just what I wanted

I replaced my canon scanner with a HP Scanjet g4050 recently. While it is the largest scanner I've owned in several years, I now need the ability to scan legal size documents, old canon was just too small for that job.

I like the slide scanning feature.

I had to replace my old HP scanner because a driver was not available for Windows 7. I chose the ScanJet G4050 because of its slide scanning feature as I have hundreds of slides from the pre-digital age that I would like to get into digital format.

HP Scanjet G4050 is versatile and quiet

This is my second G4050 and is just as reliable as my first one, but much quieter. You don't hear a blower fan start on power up, and the scan sweep sound is barely perceptible to other workers closeby. The unit is handsome and compact as well, and has a dignity all its own.
