HTC Vive Cosmos and Cosmos Elite review

The HTC Vive Cosmos and Cosmos Elite are nearly identical PC-tethered VR headsets that can evolve to match the needs of your virtual reality game collection. Both versions use the same 2880 x 1700 resolution LCD display and halo-style headband, but the front faceplate swaps out to allow you to jump from one set of capabilities to another. It’s nice that the Cosmos’ unique modular design allows you to invest less upfront and upgrade as you go, but even the high-end HTC Vive Cosmos Elite isn’t better than the Valve Index.

High resolution LCD screen; Upgrades to Cosmos Elite; Free Viveport Infinity;

Cosmos has tracking issues; Cosmos controllers are bulky; Elite uses original accessories

HTC Vive accessories hands-on review

At £99 each, the Tracker isn't cheap but the prospect of going wireless as well as features such as full-body tracking and multiplayer gets us excited. The Audio Strap is also £99 and the TPCast is $249 so it all adds up.

HTC Vive Cosmos Elite review: The best VR headset yet?

If you've been putting off purchasing the Cosmos, the Elite version might sway you. It uses base stations for superior tracking in virtual reality - which is positive for functionality, but negative for setup reasons. Still, as VR headsets go, the Elite earns its name thanks to comfort and visual fidelity. It's great.

Superior tracking to the standard Cosmos; Fantastic design features; Comfortable fit and a convenient flip-up visor;

A bit expensive; Lacks inside-out tracking in this Elite format; Not all will want base station setup;

The immersion is amazing. I'd recommend this for anyone considering getting into VR gaming.

Probably the best VR option in NZ

Firstly, this headset is rather comfortable. I don't have much experience with other headsets, but I do remember from my short time with the original vive, that it was rather bulky and would hurt the back of your head if you wore it for more than 15 mins. This is much lighter, and can honestly make you forget you're even wearing it. The audio is great, not quite up to the quality of the Valve Index but it's close. It does have a built-in microphone but it sounds like a microphone you'd get out of a cereal box so i'd recommend connecting an external microphone if you want to communicate while wearing it. Tracking is great, obviously much...view more

Worked well for a bit

Was working fine for a week or so but doesn't work anymore without resetting it each time I turn it off... Very disappointed since it cost quite a bit

The headset is OK... but....

I bought this as an upgrade from the Oculus Rift S that was compatible with full-body tracking and overall I'm a bit disappointed by the product. The screen clarity is better than the Rift S but the comfort and weight of the headset is noticeably worse. The controllers are also terrible so I'm going to have to spend another $600+ getting valve index controllers imported from the USA. I had some major issues with the base station firmware update getting an error, resulting in one of them not turning on at all until I went through the lengthy process of fixing it by reading reddit threads about the problem. Overall I feel this headset ...view more

A Good Reality

Took a day but overall was actually pretty simple and straight forward to set up. good quality and good fun. I highly suggest having a strong computer to make sure things run nicely but so long as you have the recommended requirements its still a great VR Headset to have.
