Nikon has long held a solid position in the entry-level DSLR segment with its D3xxx series of cameras. For a while now, the Nikon D3300 has been the go-to choice for many, since it offers much better features and performance for the price than Canon's 1200D.

Compact and lightweight; Very good ISO performance; Bluetooth for file transfers; Improved battery life

Only a minor refresh of the D3300; No Wi-Fi; Display washes out under direct sunlight

Nikon D3400

The Nikon D3300 has long been my go-to recommendation for a cheap dSLR, but after two years it's usually time to slap a new coat of paint on consumer products. Nikon's 2016 update to that camera, the D3400, has some small enhancements to bring it up to date, but nothing vital.

The Nikon D3400 delivers the image quality and speed that a first-time dSLR buyer should expect

A lot of the small annoyances from previous models remain, including tiny autofocus points in the viewfinder and a nonpersistent self-timer mode; Plus, its Bluetooth-only wireless solution isn't very good

Nikon D3400 review: A fantastic budget DSLR

Digital SLR is a relatively mature technology, so finding something new and exciting to put into entry-level models isn't easy. It's debatable whether Nikon has risen to this challenge with the D3400.

Class-leading image and video quality; Solid performance; Competitive price

Controls are relatively basic; Bluetooth transfers could be more reliable

The packaging was done very well. The camera accessories and functionality was great. I have never owned a camera but am getting ready for a trip and wanted something more than my iphone to capture memories. The user manual was easy helpful. Two downsides.

Very good camera for the beginner like me!

I have never owned this type of camera before. So this review is based on a first time unexperienced user. I can tell you that I love this camera. It is my favorite camera. I have owned 3 crop censored cameras before and they were all Nikons. The D3400 blows all of them away.

Easy to use

I bought it as a gift for my partner; the buy and collect was super easy at broadway. The camera is our first DSLR and the quality of the photos is just fantastic. The i phone does not compare.

Nikon D3400 review: the best entry-level DSLR money can buy

The D3400 was a little pricey at launch, but now its price has fallen it's a superb starting point for anyone new to DSLRs. It's easy to use, has excellent image quality and of course it's compatible with an enormous number of high quality lenses.

Light weight and compact; Great photos

No mic socket; Screen isn't a touchscreen

Great Purchase to new DSLR users

I bought this camera last year to start getting into photography, a subject that has interested me over the years. The D3400 has been very useful in guiding me through the basics and is quite capable of making someone with my lack of knowledge and skill look almost decent.

Easy to use; Build quality; Battery life; Screen size
