Nikkor AF-S 85mm f/1.8 G (FX) - Review / Test Report

The Nikkor AF-S 85mm f/1.8 G is an excellent lens that performs on a very high level in almost any regard. Sharpness is excellent in the image center straight from the largest aperture, the borders and corners deliver very good resolution wide open and excellent sharpness stopped down.

Nikon AF-S 85mm F1.8G Lens 85MM F1.8G LENS review

Great portrait lens...

Beets the 1.4 in everything but build quality, great color & contrast; The only category the 1.4 beets it in is having a 1.4 aperture.

Nikon AF-S Nikkor 85mm f/1.8G Lens Review

Handling and features Performance Verdict Specification Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G This medium telephoto lens from Nikon can be picked up for around £470 and sports a silent focusing motor and an internal focusing mechanism. The older AF-D version is still widely available for around £305.

Excellent sharpness; Lightweight; Decent build quality; Internal focusing; Low CA and distortion

Falloff quite pronounced at wide apertures; Focusing speeds adequate; but not amazing; Lens specification

With an f/1.8 portrait lens this sweet, who needs f/1.4?

Great portrait lens

The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G Lens is a great lens for portraiture and for use in low light. Prime lenses are typically sharper than zoom lenses and this lens is no exception. For the price it is difficult to find a sharper portraiture lens that has the same low light capabilities.

Nikon AF-S Nikkor 85mm f/1.8G

Optically, the AF-S Nikkor 85mm f/1.8G is excellent, which given its reasonable price tag is a very nice surprise. Sharpness is excellent in the centre from f2.8 to f/11, with f5.6-f/11 producing the sharpest results at the edges of the frame.

Prime lenses are an invaluable part of a photographer's arsenal. While their fixed focal lengths mean they can seem lacking in flexibility, they more than make up for this with increased optical quality.

I bought this for two upcoming weddings and with the 1.8 aperture it will be great inside the venues. The filter size is 67mm and already have two filters that size for my Nikon 18-300mm lens and also have the Nikon 35mm lens, so this 85mm lens will round out my collection nicely

Great purchase, and could be considered an everyday lens.

Im really enjoying the finished product that comes from using this lens. When out on the town in downtown Annapolis, I am getting great shots. The lens is easy to handle for the most part, and the wide angle shots are great!.

Limitless possibilities with this lens. Consistently sharp and colorful images. Ordinarily my favorite portrait lens is the Sigma 50mm 1.4 on the Nikon D610 but, the Nikon 85mm 1.8G often leaves me undecided. /:) You can't go wrong with this one.
