Reasonably priced lens that generally comes as a kit lens with Nikon's 3100,3200,5100,5200 body. Its a good all purpose lens with consistent results. Use it as a basic lens for general purpose photography.
It's obvious reading some of these reviews that a lot of you aren't experienced or semi-pro photographers. This lens is an "everyday shooter," meaning I wouldn't use this lens to shoot a wedding.
The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR ($199.95 direct) is the standard kit lens for APS-C Nikon D-SLR cameras . The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR ($199.95 direct)($199.95 at Amazon) is the standard kit lens for APS-C Nikon D-SLR cameras. Buying it along with a body halves your out of pocket costs to acquire the lens, but owners of older Nikon D-SLRs bundled with its non-stabilized predecessor may consider it as an upgrade. It produces a field of view that is roughly equivalent to 27-83mm in terms of full-frame photography. The lens is light at 9.3 ounces and measures just 3.1 by 2.9 inches (HD). It accepts 52mm filters, but the front element does rotate when focus is adjusted, so using a rotating circular polarizing filter can be tricky. Nikon keeps the weight down by using a plastic mount, rather than the more common metal variety, which is more prone to wear and tear over the years. There's an internal focus motor, which is speeider than older screw-drive systems, but because the front element rotates during focus it can be a bit noisy. A bayonet lens hood is available to re...

Awesome lens and lightweight...that's a real plus and what a great price. Will use this in place of my Nikon 18-200mm lens which while great is heavy. This 18-55mm lens was the one on my daughter's new Nikon D3200 and it performed flawlessly.
The ‘VR' in this lens stands for Vibration Reduction. The name is different, but the basic mechanism is the same as Canon's IS (Image Stabiliser) technology. Gyroscopic sensors within the lens detect the slightest movement and a ‘floating' element within the lens is instantly adjusted to keep the...
Love this lens. The right zoom range, the right price and great performance. What else can you ask for The VR is pretty effective, I have taken a few sharp pictures at below 1/15 shutter speed. Would definitely recommend this one for anyone looking for an all-purpose lens which is not so expensive.
This is a good lens to take pictures only for the computer, but if you want to print them on paper, it fails. The sharpness is missing and clarity is not there.
Great versatile lens for beginners. I used mainly for candid and hobby shots when I would travel with my boyfriend or having an adventure with friends. I usually use a 50mm but when you want candid shots like taking photos of yourself with a friend the 50 zooms in too much!
Affordable; Consistent Output; Durable; Easily Interchangeable; Fast / accurate auto-focus; Lightweight; Versatile
Not as sharp as a prime
