Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm F5.0-6.3 IS Lens - Brand New review

While its two stops slower than the M.Zuiko Digital ED 300mm f/4.0 IS PRO lens at the 300mm focal length, the M.Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm f/5.0-6.3 IS lens offers a more versatile alternative that is smaller, lighter and more affordable.

Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm F5.0-6.3 IS Lens - Brand New review

First off, there is no doubt that Olympus have produced a superb lens, both for ease of use and for features provided. Performance is also excellent, better than the bald figures suggest. The IS system works well, extending the usefulness of the lens as the light levels fall.

Very good sharpness, Low CA and distortion, Virtually no flare, Weather resistance, Very close focusing, Blisteringly fast AF, Lovely bokeh, Effective Image Stabilisation, Low vignetting, Excellent price, Supports Image Stacking, Tripod mounting collar, Light and Compact

Modest maximum aperture

Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm F5.0-6.3 IS Lens - Brand New review

Top-end, long telephoto lenses do not come cheap so you have to accept some compromises if you want to get a long lens for wildlife photography without dipping deep into your bank account.

Compact for the effective focal length (200-800mm), Stabilised, Dust and weatherproof

Variable aperture with a maximum of f/5.6-6.3, Stabilisation not compatible with Sync IS

Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm F5.0-6.3 IS Lens - Brand New review

The OM System/Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm f/5-6.3 is a ultra-telephoto zoom that handles quite well although there are some niggling points. For example, the lens’ various switches are more awkward to get at when shooting in the portrait format.

Olympus M.Zuiko ED 100-400mm F5.0-6.3 IS Review

The Olympus M.Zuiko ED 100-400mm F5.0-6.3 IS ($1,499.99) is an appealing lens for Micro Four Thirds photographers interested in capturing photos of distant action. It's built to high standards, made for all-weather use, and offers teleconverter support. And despite an ultra-telephoto angle, it's quite useful for handheld photography. That said, its optics are a mixed bag—we enjoyed sharp results at the wide end, but quality drops off when zoomed in. For the price, we hoped for better.Ultra Telephoto for Micro Four Thirds Olympus has a few telephoto zoom options for the Micro Four Thirds mirrorless system. The M.Zuiko ED 100-400mm F5.0-6.3 IS qualifies as midrange in price and position. It's a step up from the $550 75-300mm F4.8-6.7 II, and well shy of premium options like the $2,900 M.Zuiko 300mm F4.0 and the $7,500 150-400mm F4.5 TC 1.25X IS Pro. From the outside it looks great. The barrel mixes polycarbonate and metal, incorporating dust, splash, and freeze protection. Olymp...

The Olympus M.Zuiko ED 100-400mm F5.0-6.3 IS has many of the hallmarks of a serious lens for enthusiasts. But while we love how well the lens is made, it struggles to get sharp results at maximum zoom.

Ultra-telephoto angle in a lightweight package; Tripod collar with Arca foot; Excellent 1:1.8 macro; Stabilized optics; Dust and splash protection; Teleconverter compatibility

Image quality suffers at maximum zoom; Omits anti-smudge fluorine coating

Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm F5.0-6.3 IS Lens - Brand New review

The Apple iPhone 14 is no match for the just-released iPhone 14 Pro, but if you ignore that, it’s one of the most effective phones around.

Great cameras, front and back, Fast performance, Good battery life, Innovative safety features

Design too familiar, Some average features

Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm F5.0-6.3 IS Lens - Brand New review

The iPhone 14 isn't much of an upgrade over the iPhone 13, but it's still a great device and an upgrade for anyone coming from the iPhone 11 or older.

Great camera, Good battery, Emergency features are cool, Still excellent performance

Display could use some upgrades
