Tested: Tokina AT-X 16-28mm f/2.8 Pro FX

The first lens in a promised line of AT-X Pro FX full-frame Tokinas, this is also the company's first with a highly refined, micro AF motor that's both silent and fast-focusing.

Tokina AT-X 16-28mm F2.8 Pro FX

The Tokina AT-X 16-28mm F2.8 Pro FX is an impressive ultra-wide angle lens for Canon and Nikon full-frame DSLRs like the 5D Mark II and D3s. Weghing nearly a kilo and costing over £1,000, it is undoubtedly a large and expensive optic, but it does deliver excellent distortion-free images at virtually...

Tokina's AT-X 16-28mm f/2.8 PRO FX Review

Wide-aperture, wideangle zoom lens great for full-frame coverage

Solid all-round performance at a competitive price-point

No manual-focus adjustment whilst in AF mode

Much bigger than most lenses, and at more than twice the weight of some, the Tokina AT-X 16-28mm f/2.8 PRO FX is a chunky lens. That's because while other lenses are designed solely for use on cameras with APS-C or Four Thirds sensors, the Tokina is fully compatible with full-frame cameras.

Compatible with full-frame cameras; Autofocus using Tokina's new 'silent' DC motor is fast; quiet and accurate

No image stabilisation; No filter thread

Tokina 16-28mm f/2.8 AT-X PRO FX SD review by colinjames

Tokina did a great job with this lens. Debated a long time over Nikon 17-35mm - but landed here. I previously owned the Nikkor 14-24mm, so carrying this around is no problem. save your money over Nikon. Newest version has nice cap and ass gasket.

Sharp; fast 2.8 ; build; focus is fast and accurate

2.8 at 28mm; flare with long exposures

I recently purchased this lens because I wanted a fast (f/2.8), quality wide-angle zoom for my Nikon D90. I couldn't justify forking out the money for the brand-name lens so I did a whole lot of homework and opted for this Tokina lens.

Tokina AT-X 16-28mm f/2.8 PRO FX Lens

Announced in July 2010, Tokina's AF 16-28mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro SD FX is the first in a new generation of ultra-wide angle lenses for cameras with 35mm-sized imagers. There's no point in buying this lens for a camera with an APS-C sized sensor because it's big and bulky and there are plenty of lighter...
