Not for: Won't work on manual-focus cameras. Can't use filters, so mostly useless on film. It's foolish to use this on a DX or 1.6x Canon camera; for them, the Tokina 11-16mm , or even a kit lens , is a much smarter idea.

Tokina is the smallest of the 3 big third-party manufacturers (Tokina, Tamron, Sigma). They offer a couple of fairly unexciting products but they're playing among the very best in one specific segment - ultra-wide angle lenses.

Currently available to fit Canon and Nikon SLR full frame cameras, this ultra-wide angle zoom has a fast f/2.8 aperture throughout the zoom range and costs around ￡795.

I've used Canon's 16-35mm and it's a good lens. But next to Tokina's 16-28, I don't see a reason to use one anymore besides easier use of filters. Filters can be used with this lens with some ingenuity.

Value for money really good. Filters work well, but want to build a holder itself. Low-priced Chinese Cokin X model.

I strongly considered buying the Nikon 14-24mm over the Tokina, mainly because I shoot predominately weddings and weather sealing is a must. All the reviews I read said that the Tokina wasn't weather sealed, with no rear gasket present.

The Tokina 16-28mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro FX Lens is an affordable, ultra wide angle lens with an also-ultra wide f/2.8 aperture available over the entire focal length range. That this lens is full-frame-compatible adds greatly to its desirability.
