Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 USM IS

Released in early 1998 the Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 USM IS was the first standard SLR zoom lens featuring an image stabilization (IS) mechanism. Using its IS capabilities the camera motion is detected by 2 gyro sensors which measure the angle and speed of the shake.

Overview ------------- I bought this lens as part of a package with my previous body, a 20D . Build Quality ------------------ The EF 28-135 IS USM falls into the mid-range bracket of lenses in that it is a "proper" lens.

Pretty good build quality and performance; excellent image stabiliser

Quite expensive for just good but not great performance

A strong lens for light but serious travel photography on crop digital. I match it with the Tokina 12-24 f4(an excellent lens) and get 19-200+ range on the digital Rebel, with IS on the upper end.

Good range; decent sharpness; can be used on film cameras; too

Some zoom creep; Not super small; can pick up dust

Rate it all!

Canon EF 28-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS USM Standard Zoom Lens for Canon SLR?Cameras

This lens looks on the surface to be a great all-purpose lens, and at first the pictures looked a step up from my Canon PowerShot A720IS 8MP Digital Camera with 6x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom. It has image stabilization, and a good range, I thought it would be a good general purpose lens.

Lens Test: Canon 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM AF

A full-frame Image Stabilizer, the Canon 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS ($410, street) is sold both separately and as part of high-end Canon EOS 30D and 40D kits (adding only $200). We tested it years ago as a full-framer, but we wanted to see how it performs on the 40D's APS-sized sensor.

Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens Review

Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM was first released in mid 1998 and was one of Canon's first lenses to incorporate an Image Stabilization technology. Priced at about US$450 (as of April 2007) the lens is clearly positioned for the entry level market with appeal to amateurs purchasing their first...

Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens Compared to Other Zoom and Primes Lenses

This report briefly summarizes my review of four moderate range consumer zooms for Canon autofocus cameras. I compared the performance of several consumer zooms lenses against each other as well as Canon L-zooms and Canon prime lenses.

Was my first lens.. Used it for almost 3 years until I sold it for my 17-40. Great entry level lens.. Nice lens for the price.

Great focal range .; Great IS.; Nice price and great entry level lens; USM & FTM.

Build quality not good - When you face the lens downwards, it extends! Wobbles while zooming.; 72mm filter - not a standard! 28mm is too restrictive on a APS-C for general purpose

Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM review by dugong5pm

This is the best walkaround/travel lens for fullframe users. I prefer this than the more expensive 24-105L. Yes, the L-series will give you (slightly) better results, but for more money and weight (duh). I love this lens because of the portability.

price; focal range; IS; light

none
