A strong lens for light but serious travel photography on crop digital. I match it with the Tokina 12-24 f4(an excellent lens) and get 19-200+ range on the digital Rebel, with IS on the upper end.

Good range; decent sharpness; can be used on film cameras; too

Some zoom creep; Not super small; can pick up dust

Rate it all!

Canon EF 28-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS USM Standard Zoom Lens for Canon SLR?Cameras

This lens looks on the surface to be a great all-purpose lens, and at first the pictures looked a step up from my Canon PowerShot A720IS 8MP Digital Camera with 6x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom. It has image stabilization, and a good range, I thought it would be a good general purpose lens.

Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 USM IS

Released in early 1998 the Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 USM IS was the first standard SLR zoom lens featuring an image stabilization (IS) mechanism. Using its IS capabilities the camera motion is detected by 2 gyro sensors which measure the angle and speed of the shake.

Overview ------------- I bought this lens as part of a package with my previous body, a 20D . Build Quality ------------------ The EF 28-135 IS USM falls into the mid-range bracket of lenses in that it is a "proper" lens.

Pretty good build quality and performance; excellent image stabiliser

Quite expensive for just good but not great performance

Great overall lens

Have owned two of them since 2001. I have used them within my photo studio for all types of images from commercial, wedding and portrait since 2001 on full frame and crop sensor digitzal EOS bodies as well as Rebel XSI bodies.

Good starter lens

This is a good starter lens that allows the user to get used to using their camera with little to worry about with the lens. It has good resolution even at the extremes of the zooming.

I believe you have to look for a good copy. Love the range on the 1.6 crop. Very seldom do I have to switch out lenses for a wedding, except of course wide angle and low light.

Sharp; IS works well; good walk around lens for the money

A little light fall off; Zoom loose after heavy use

good lens, but too long for a half-frame body

I own a Canon Rebel XTi an entry-level SLR and I purchased this lens hoping I can use it as an all around lens, but I quickly realized this is probably not going to be so. If you, like me, own a half-frame camera, you will probably want to consider getting an additional lens to cover the wide-angle...

Great !!

I am stunned at the image quality this lens has produced for me. Action shots are crystal clear thanks to IS which is extremely quiet compared to my other Canon lenses. And indoor shots without a flash are a breeze, thanks to the 3.5 aperture and IS.

IS; USM; PERFECT FOR EVERY DAY USE; GREAT PICTURES INDOORS AND OUT

NOT WIDE ENOUGH FOR WIDE ANGLE SHOTS ON 1.6 DIGITAL CAMERAS

Canon EF 28-135mm lens

Though not the image quality desired for PRO use, this lens is very capable for the hobbyist. Close work with average to good lighting has resulted in some clear quality images with my Canon 40D. I was not as pleased with the far range as the focus seems soft.

Consistent Output; Easily Interchangeable; Good amature lens; Lightweight; Quick Focus

Not weatherdust sealed; Soft focus at far range
