Finally Have One, Lives Up to the Hype

As far as scanners go, this is hardly my first rodeo: Starting with a used Nikon LS-10 35mm scanner over 20 years ago, Ive gotten a taste of scanners in various formats, and even though Ive been almost exclusively using 35mm up until very recently, Ive understood the virtues of high-quality flatbeds...

V800

A bought this product to replace a 4990 that developed stripes when scanning 35 mm slides. Having used it mainly in wintertime the same problem has occurred with the V800 just two years after purchase. While the quality of the scans is very good, I'm disappointed with the durability of the V800

Mostly good but some issues

My 700 died right in the middle of a project so I needed to replace it fast. I liked the 700 so I bought the 800 - it's mostly good. Sadly, it has the exact same capabilities of the 700 with the exception of some lenses that help when scanning slides or negatives.

A pain to set up, but a great scanner

Software a bit of a hassle to set up. Instructions are dismal. However, the scans are excellent once you get it set up and figure out the software. The colors are accurate, and the scans are sharp. The holders are quite nice, especially for scanning slides.

Very happy with it

Very happy with the results (35mm film at least). As mentioned else where, it is very much a dust magnet. So you need good dust management and "hygiene" (including the room you are working in) when handling film. I also bought a cover for protection when not in use.

This is a great tool for the digital darkroom and archives.

This scanner is more versatile than my old Nikon V. It also has equal or better specs. Putting all these scanning media options together in a flatbed is real bang for buck! One criticism.. and it isn't aimed specifically at Epson.. The majority of my most valuable work is B&W negative based.

Quality pictures, easy to use, fast and dependable

I have used it for a year, primarily on thousands of slides and a number of photos. It was easy to setup and operate. The finished product is superb and easy to bring into the computer. It is a good product and easily does all it is supposed to do

works as advertised but advanced settings are complicated

I'm pretty happy with this purchase but scanning slides is very time-consuming. The carrier tray only holds 12 at a time and you need to be careful inserting and removing them to not bend the clips or fingerprint the slides.

Epson Perfection V800 Photo

For professional photographers and others who need high-quality photo scanning, experts say the Epson Perfection V800 Photo is the scanner to get. It works fairly quickly, has a good selection of image-correction features, and supports most film sizes.

Excellent image quality; Scans film and negatives; Good control over image; Reasonably fast

No photo-editing software included; Poor film holders
