Great Optics with Extremely Poor Material

I barely used this lens with my 35mm after I bought it paying extra for f/1.4D instead of 1.8. The aperture blades are stuck and the camera cannot change aperture anymore. I kept the lens extremely carefully and was never exposed to any condition that could have damaged the lens by making the...

Great asset to have!

I primarily use this lens for portrait photography and would reccomend it to anyone from the photo enthusiast to the professional photographer. It produces very sharp images with a fast zoom.

Durable; Easily Interchangeable; Quick Focus; Sharp Focus; Strong Construction

I had one of these for a long time and made the mistake of letting it go because I thought the Sigma 30mm 1.4 would replace it. It wasn't long before I missed it so now it's back to stay. It's a great lens on a digital SLR up to at least a half height portrait.

Fast; sharp; light

Noisy AF; Soft in corners on full frame (film) at 1.4

Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D Lens Review

Handling and features Performance Verdict Specification This standard 50mm prime lens is a popular used buy, but still available new for a reasonable discount over Nikon's latest 50mm f/1.4G. New it can be picked up for around £240, or £150 or less if buying used.

Good sharpness in the centre at maximum aperture; Outstanding sharpness when stopped down; A good value used buy; Decent enough build quality

Screw-driven focus; Soft with falloff at f/1.4; Basic design lacks luxuries of more modern lenses

Nikkor AF 50mm f/1.4 D - Review / Lab Test Report

Similar to its cousin (AF 50mm f/1.8 D) the Nikkor AF 50mm f/1.4 D is a very good performer. At f/1.4 the contrast is a little on the low side and the borders may be a little soft but from f/2.8 & up the performance is really superb.

It\'s an incredible lens for the price. Today, what lens do you get for 150 € This is the price for a brand new one. Try it and you will love it.

Very sharp after being closed to f2.8; Very good image quality on all the frame; Fast and reliable AF on a D610

This lens is no more made in Japan; but the build quality is OK

super little lens

a must have lens for your kit bag - small, well made, sharp throughout, quick to focus. Hard to find fault and is ideal when used with the D800 Far superior to the other 50mm in my bag the f1.8 AF-S

Lightweight; Quick Focus; Sharp Focus; Strong Construction

Pound-for-pound the best lens I own!

Superb value, produces stunning, pro quality images. Light, compact lens, works in low light. If you do not have a prime/fixed lens then the difference is huge. Of course it is limited to one focal range but the quality outweighs this and great for learning to move your feet and think more about...

Overall a great lens

I bought this lens for my Nikon d7000, excellent lens, very sharp, auto focus is fast but sounds like a choking donkey, very noisy. Still, for the price, you get a great lens, well worth it.
