Wrong item shown in the picture

The price seems to match the description "f/1.4D", but the picture shown is of the costly "f/1.4G". This is misleading as the small difference in letter is easy to miss while most people would look at the picture and price. Please change the picture to show the correct one!

Small - Light - Fast - Sharp lens

If you have a D90 (or any camera which has the SWM) it's a brilliant buy and value for money. You won't regret it! It's pretty quick and good for low light shots as well. It's a good lens for portrait / product photography.

Great bokeh. Soft focus at wide open

Fast lens. Great bokeh. Soft focus at wide open. Sharpens at f4 and up. Feels more solid than the (equivalent) new G lens.

The pictures below illustrate the angles of view on FX (35mm full frame) and DX camera bodies:

Excellent image quality when stopped down; Essentially no lateral chromatic aberration

Distinctly soft at wider apertures; Bokeh chromatic aberration; most visible at wide apertures; Broad blue-coloured halation at wide apertures; Vignetting at wide apertures on full frame (essentially disappears by F2.8

Good Portrait And Night Photography...

There are plenty of great, maybe better, lenses on the market. I chose the 50mm f/1.4D because for me, it is a versatile lens to an extent. It is a prime lens, therefore one cannot zoom in (for those of you not familiar or new to prime lenses.

It's the sharpest lens I own, and I have the 85 f/1.4, 70-200 and 17-55. This is the lens I reach for when I'm shooting billboard images or need that tack-sharp bridal portrait.Bokeh is pretty decent, not up to the 85mm, but I get very nice results at f/2-2.8.

Sharp, light weight, solid; Fairly cheap

Noisy focusing, not very smooth; Made in China

Nikon AF 50mm f/1.4D Review

The Nikon 50mm f/1.4 D is an entry-level prime lens that offers with AI cameras of yesteryear. It even features Nikon's once-standard 52mm filter thread. Yet despite all this, its D-series specification indicates that it will transfer distance information to a suitably interfaced camera body in...
