Heavy
After reading many reviews I brought this lens, and What a lens! I spent a day or two testing this lens against my other two long lenses, Pentax 400mm f4 EDIF, and 600mm F5.6 EDIF, both with NIkon adaptors, and it beats the 400mm at f4, 5.6 and as good as the 600mm at f5.6.
sharpness; Can be used hand hold, so it is extremely useful when you are shooting on the go like most tourists; Well if I were a professional and have more money and assistance from technicians, I would get the 400mm VR, 500mm VR and 600mm VR; But I am not.
expensive; especially for someone who is also shooting other formats (large format)
WOW! What a lens. Sharp from corner to corner at all zoom lengths. This is a HEAVY pro level lens. Always use it on a strong tripod or with a monopod. You put the camera on the lens, not the other way around.
I did buy 3. But not all at once. I've had a weird relationship with the 200-400mm vr. I bought my first one new, in about 2010. It lived up to it's reputation. Superb in every aspect. fast focus, sharp, great being able to zoom. The lot. But I had a weak moment and sold it to a friend.
Consistent Output; Quick Focus; Sharp Focus; Strong Construction
I had deliberated whether to purchase this lens or not because of its price point and some negative comments on the internet. I wish I had not waited because I love the 200-400.
I bought this lens to take on safari in South Africa. I was concerned that it may be 1) too heavy, 2 make blurred images when shooting action in low light at max magnification. Wow, this lens is no cause for concern when shooting on the fly in low light.
I use this lens to photograph birds. I shot everything from eables to warblers with it. Yes it is somewhat heavy but the quality & sharpness of the imagages is absolutly oustanding. Focus i very quick & accurat Ys I do hand hold it a it is impossile to shoot warblers from a tripod.
I had deliberated whether to purchase this lens or not because of its price point and some negative comments on the internet. I wish I had not waited because I love the 200-400. I've been a Nikon owner since my college days back in the sixties at IU and have always been satisfied with Nikon.
Consistent Output; Durable; Easily Interchangeable; Fast / accurate auto-focus; Nice Bokeh; Rugged; Strong Construction
I received the lens last week and had my first opportunity to use it over the weekend at a indoor speed skating meet. The lens, while heavy, was still manageable to handhold and I was able to get some great close-ups of people in the crowd.
Great; sharp images Smooth operation Solid build Well made case
A bit heavy
