Nikon AF-S Nikkor 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR

With the lens attached to a D700, auto-focus is generally fast (but not instant). On the F65, focusing worked well in good light, but became quite problematic in normal room lighting. The D700 had no such issues with the lens.

This lens does it all

If you can have just one lens, this is it!! Ken Rockwell said this lens is sharp through out its entire zoom range and he was right! I do a lot of landscape shots and this lens can go pretty wide at 28mm,then you can zoom big time to capture things that look a long way away and bring them in...

Easy To Use; Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus; Good Image Quality

This is an amazing lens. It is relatively new on the market and I wasn't sure how it would perform seeing as it has been labelled a "do-it-all" lens. So far, it has exceeded my expectations on my Nikon D700. I shoot just about everything but mostly people and travel.

- image quality is surprising considering the extreme zoom range; - lightweight (compared to many other lenses in that category; - focuses in very low light conditions; - acceptable distortion (except when shooting vertical and/or horizontal lines; - VR allows a couple of extra stops; - solid build

- Expensive (but when you consider all the lenses it replaces; it's a real bargain; - Distortion at max wide and max long ends

A little background - My first 28-300 was the very first lens I ever bought for my first digital SLR, and it was a Sigma. I took a lot of good photos with it, and thought it was a fine lens. As time went on, I bought better glass, and started seeing the shortcomings in it.

Wow. Super sharp bag of lenses killer.

I have debated in agony about putting down 1K plus on this lens. I wish I would not have waited so long. It is a fantastic upgrade to my kit lens 18-105 VR. After taking 8000 pictures on my D7000 I realized I was using the wide portion of the kit lens only about 1% of the time.

Super Sharp

Over a grand most of the time and hard to find

A Real Workhorse

i have owned this lens for two years, and have literally traveled the world using it as my solo lens. I recently went to SE Asia, and took a variety of lenses with me but never took any of them out of my bag since my 28-300 covered all situations I encountered.

Jack of all trades

Any photographer will tell you that even the most expensive digital body is worthless without good glass to back it up, and it isn't too often you come across a superzoom like this one which ticks all of the boxes.
