Great lens for a great camera

I bought this lens when I upgraded from a D90 to the D800 a few months ago. I had been using the 70-300 lens on my D90, and loved it. I researched a lot before buying this lens, and had some concerns about distortion, but decided to buy it for the versatility -- and at the time I did not have a...

Found this lens to be as good or better than the 24-120 F4. Very sharp for a zoom, works well on the D750. Great all purpose lens for vacations and for sports.

Awesome Upgrade to the Nikon 18-200mm

I owned the Nikon 18-200mm which I enjoyed and was sharp to about 120mm but was soft at the long end. The 28-300mm is a much sharper lens and is sharp from 200-300mm. I'm really enjoying this lens and can't believe how good the build quality is. There is no lens creep like the 18-200mm.

Awesome optics; Not soft on long end; No lens creep; Psuedo macro; Excellent Build Quality; Fantastic clarity

Great Lens

This Lens is very versatile, its my first lens for a new Nikon 810 and I'm very pleased with it. I do a lot of outdoor photography, plants, landscapes, aviation, equestrian, you get the idea, and it just great, admittedly I haven't tried other lenes and probably don't need to so won't for a while.

Great lens so far

I have had this lens a little less than a month. It is a touch heavy but it takes fabulous pictures. I highly recommend it.

Nikon Quality

It is definately heavier than most lenses of this range. The lens has very smooth zoom but it is firm. I personally like the stiffness as i had a Tameron comperable lens and every time it hung down the lens zoom would extend itself to full length and then unveriably you would bang it.

Swiss Army lens

This lens does pretty much everything for a FX sensor camera. It isn't the sharpest, buts it's a good walking around lens. Get the 18-200mm DX lens of you have a DX camera instead.

REVIEW: Nikon AF-S Nikkor 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR

Is Nikon's new 28-300mm the ideal travel lens for FX format cameras? Here Gary Wolstenholme puts the lens through its paces.

Good optical performance for a lens of this type; Fast silent focusing; Vibration reduction is very effective; Build quality

Maybe a bit on the pricey side; Distortion at 28mm and 300mm

Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S VR Lens

While I hope to create a full Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S VR Lens, my first priority is to include results from this lens in the lens comparison tools available on the site. This page currently exists because it is required by the database and content management systems for me to post information...

Very good indeed as general-purpose lens, despite cost. Highly recommended

Very significant distortion at virtually all focal lengths, requiring correction in any photo with straight lines, NOT for architectural photography, also noticeable vignetting at either end of zoom range, esp; wide open

Very sharp at all focal lengths, even with Tamron 1.4 pro converter! Focuses v; fast even in low (non-existent!) light, reasonably light & compact for range (cf; equivalent Canon lens...); o v; good indeed.Great as single walk-about lens, especially for nature & portrait photography, nacr
