Handling and Features Performance Verdict Specification This brand new compact wide angle lens from Nikon costs around £620 and sports a bright f/1.8 maximum aperture, silent internal focusing and nano-crystal coatings to help control ghosting and flare.
Excellent optical performance; Silent focusing; Low CA; Low distortion; Compact and lightweight; Relatively good value (when compared to f/1.4 alternatives
Falloff of illumination towards the corners at wide apertures
I was in one of my favorite camera stores buying a new Nikon V1 for my gal when feeling a little under the weather, I started looking at glass. Spending can perk me up. Wink I'd been casually thinking about this new 28 f/1.8G for a couple of months but was a little worried about the reports of focus...
Very sharp and contrasty on my D700, D3S and D800. Crystal clear rendition with no color cast.
Almost too light weight for a $700 lens if that's possible.
This is one of my favorite lenses in the collection. I often use it with my Nikon D7200 since I really like the field of view and perspective of this lens on a cropped sensor. It focuses super fast, silent, and accurate.
This lens is no match for Nikons Pro range lenses. The build quality is decidedly light weight (which may be a good or bad feature, depending on the individual's requirements) but despite not being of Pro standard is nevertheless a very good lens at this price point and is way ahead of third party...
Good picture quality; Lightweight; Simple Controls
I really thought long and hard over this one. All of the online reviews indicated that this was a questionable lens with issues. I then noticed that virtually all of those reviews were from 2012. The recent reviews were much better.
After trying half a dozen lenses to use as as a fast normal prime on my D7100 I've finaly found one I like. Nikon 35mm was too long, Sigma 30mm was to soft, Nikon 28mm f/2,8 AF was nice, but f/2,8 is quite slow for a prime. The Nikon 28mm f/1,8 on the other hand is perfect.
Light; sharp; fast; what more to ask for
Spherochromatism; quite large for a prime
Mount: Nikon F | Format: Full frame | Construction: 11 elements in 9 groups, 7 diaphragm blades | Closest focus distance: 25cm | Filter thread: 67mm | Autofocus: ring-type ultrasonic | Dimensions: 73x81mm, weight 330g | Tested on: Nikon D7100 This lens is nearly an f/stop slower than Nikon's 24mm...
We all read pros/cons about this lens. You know about build, slack in focus ring, and price. I spent too much time with this lens and wish I could get it back. Despite monkeying with af adjustment I just could not get a sharp picture wide open on my D600.
sharp stopped down
soft wide open - which is a shame
I really didn't care for this lens.. I was under the impression it zoomed and see know point to wide/prime lens.. I guess if your a landscape photographer or someone who only needs wide shots but for me it was not what i was searching for..
