Panasonic Lumix G 25mm f/1.7 Asph review

At first sight, Panasonic's latest lens, the Lumix G 25mm f/1.7 Asph, may look redundant before it's even hit the shops. After all, it's not as if there's a shortage of similar options for Micro Four Thirds. But then you notice the price – just £159 at launch – and it makes sense.

Amazing Value

Incredibly affordable f/1.7 lens that is easily the best value in 25mm primes around. I purchased this on sale for a comically-low price to replace the good-but-slower Sigma 19mm and 20mm primes in my stable.

f/1.7; Thank you; Fast; Included hood; Low Price; Smooth focus ring

All-Plastic build; No pouch; Slow to focus in some situations

Panasonic Lumix G 25mm f/1.7 ASPH

The Panasonic Lumix G 25mm f/1.7 ASPH is a very good standard lens at a very affordable price, making it a must-have purchase if you don't already have a 50mm equivalent lens in your kit-bag. Optically the Panasonic Lumix G 25mm f/1.7 ASPH is an excellent performer.

Panasonic Lumix G 25mm f/1.7 ASPH Review

The Panasonic Lumix G 25mm f/1.7 for Micro Four Thirds is the equivalent of the 50mm f/1.8 or f/1.7 lenses that for decades were considered the standard lenses for 35mm film cameras. Typically these were high quality optics, made in vast numbers so at relatively low cost.

High levels of sharpness; Low distortion; Low CA; Close focusing; Well made

No weather resistance; Flare levels high against the light
