Good lens with nice image quality, albeit you're often at F5.6 due to the variable aperture. Definitely worth the price, though.
Probably the best cheap Kit zoom in the standard short zoom lens kit class, very good value for money, the best thing about this lens is optically very sharp, almost silent, the zoom control feels very positive with a classy feel resistance grip, but above all it takes very good pictures and stable...
I bought this based on the Ken Rockwell review. Yes, it's the old A7 kit lens, but considering the interior of the Zeiss is also plastic and this was reported to be a little sharper overall I bought it. I have one commercial shoot done with this on the A7S and I'm really satisfied.
Great Lens for my Sony Alpha A7S
Easily Interchangeable; Fast / accurate auto-focus; Strong Construction
The Sony FE kit lens: it's an option that's bundled with the A7 lineup of cameras and will satisfy the needs of the general shooter. In many cases, the will best meet the needs of the A7 and A7r lineup of users if you want better sharpness.
Personally I enjoy using this kit lens - out there, in real life, away from charts and all that, the IQ is actually very good for a kit lens and performs very well on the a7m2 and a6000.
So far I love it. It appears sharp though rather large sitting on my Sony A6000. It gives 42.5mm to 105 (full frame equivalent) on my dslr equivalent Sony, which is a handy range for many occasions. It has stabilisation also. Overall, quite pleased so far.
I have both Zeiss FE 35 and Zeiss FE 55. This lens is no Zeiss. You can't shake the feeling that you are working with a cheap plastic toy. With this said, if you work within its limitations, it is a more than a reasonable carry around zoom.
Light; decent image quality @24mm; OSS; weather sealed
Feels cheap; tele-photo end very slow (F5.6
Given reviews that I'd read I thought that I'd be changing this for the Zeiss equivalent but not so. At its worst setting at 70mm the edges are soft wide open but stopped down to F8 all is well again. Perhaps the best kit lens I've seen since the LUMIX 14-45.
Light stabilised and sealed with good resolution and nice bokeh
High quality plastic
