Historically, Canon hasn't been known for making pancake lenses. Just a few years ago it dipped its toes into the water of the ultra-slim prime lens space with the EF 40mm f/2.8 STM ($179.00 at Dell) for full-frame camera bodies. Joining it is the inexpensive Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM ($149.99) lens for APS-C cameras. When paired with a Rebel or another crop-sensor Canon body, its field of view is just a little bit wider than the 40mm on a full-frame body, equivalent to about 38mm. It's quite sharp, even at f/2.8, and while it does show some darkening of corners at its widest aperture, that's a small price to pay for its compact form factor, especially when you consider its price. Anyone buying a Canon SLR should purchase it as a compact supplement to the run-of-the-mill EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM ($149.99 at Amazon) lens that's bundled with most Rebel bodies. There's not a lot to add that the above paragraphs don't spell out in glowing detail -- it's small, it's economical, and it has great test results. I see it ending up in a lot of presents this holiday season.
Small and affordable, the Canon 24mm f/2.8 isn't a stellar lens, but it does its job well....
My experience of this lens is with my Canon 750D. This was my first lens purchase after my kit lens (18-55mm STM), and I am stoked with the quality of the images I can get from it. On a crop sensor, the 24mm focal length is roughly 38mm, which is an extremely versatile focal length.
