Nikkor AF-S DX 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED VR II

The Nikkor DX 18-200mm VR II is an 11.1x super-zoom lens designed for Nikon's range of DX format DSLRs. Announced in July 2009, it's the update to one of the most popular lenses for the Nikon system, now equipping it with better protection against zoom creep, where the lens barrel can inadvertently...

Very flexible and convenient 11.1x zoom range; Optical stabilisation with four stops of compensation; Quiet autofocusing on all Nikon bodies; Decent build quality and zoom-lock switch

The most expensive super-zoom for cropped bodies; Suffers from zoom creep between 28 and 135mm; Suffers from zoom-shrinkage at close range; Beaten on price and quality by twin lens solutions

NIKKOR 18–200mm f/3.5–5.6G ED VR II

Nikon's new AF-S DX NIKKOR 18–200mm f/3.5–5.6G ED VR II lens (27–300mm 35mm equivalent) is an updated version of their popular 18–200mm lens that covers a significant 11.1x focal-length range and probably most of a photographer's shooting needs.

Compact; wide coverage; effective Vibration Reduction

Lens creep; distortion

Nice improvement

I use this lens as my all-purpose one. I had the previous version. The lens lock corrects the tendancy to slide open. The two types of stablization provide really good low light shooting. I really get good pictures from tight to wide with little flair.

All around lens; Excellent photo quality; Good stabilization

expensive; Heavy bulky; Not intuitive to use

AF-S DX Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED VR II Lens

The AF-S DX Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED VR II is a minor redesign of a previous lens. It features a new zoom mechanism for reducing zoom creep (the lens slides forward when tilted).

You want an all-in-one lens with good build quality; You'd like effective image stabilisation; You'd like a lens that requires no readjustment when you fit polarisers and graduated filters.

Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR II Lens

While I hope to create a full Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR II Lens, my first priority is to include results from this lens in the lens comparison tools available on the site.

" Great Sharp all around lens for the traveller! "

This item is great, the first version was a great sharp lens, but the zoom creep was really annoying, but no more with version two which has the zoom lock. A  great addition to the flagship of great optical range all-in-one lens for DSLR.
